Miriam,
Thanks for the prompt response. I took German in high school, which was a long time ago. I should be able to converse as my son I will be visiting Munich in late June. I thought there was some kind of Palm Pilot software available that could help me with strange words. I am especially concerned as we will be in Munich and I have a difficult time understanding Baviarian dialect.
I will try the European-forum per your response.
Danke und aufwiederhoren,
Jerry

Hi Jerry,
I doubt that any software is suitable for your problem in Bavaria. They use more or less the same language and the "special" dialect expressions are unlikely to be known by any software.
I must admit that I have my problems with people who are using a strong dialect. But you can surely count on the fact that a lot of people speak English and if you have problems-use your hands and feet or draw a picture and everybody will be having fun-not making fun of you! Great way to get to know people. You can be sure that Germans will be more ashamed not to speak English than they would you expect to speak German.
