Planning a day trip to NYC on the 23 of this month. Will be driving up from S Jersey. We want to park on the Jersey side (where ever that is). Where do we pick up a train into the city? And how to get that train schedule? Prices .. Any and all information will be sooo appreciated!! Thank You

Well as “south Jersey” can mean places other than somewhere new Trenton (like Cape May)...can you let us know where you will be coming from? A suggestion would be Metropark NJ (i.e. New Brunswick area) which is an Amtrak station and a regular NJ Transit station, and has daily parking for $5. This is right on the GS Parkway (exit 131) and also about one exit off the Turnpike (about Exit 11, take the GS Parkway exit from the Turnpike, go North for about 1-2 exits to Exit 131), so very easy access. There are frequent trains to NYC from there, check Amtrak schedules at Amtrak.com and the NJtransit.com schedules. Trains take about 45 minutes and require no changes. Amtrak trains are slightly faster but more expensive.
The problem with trying to park at any suburban NJ train station (other than Metropark) is that there is generally no daily parking available, it is all permit parking for residents and is completely full in any event with commuters.
I don’t imagine you want to drive all the way to someplace like Jersey City or Newark, although that is possible. An option would be to drive to Newark and then take either a train or the PATH to Manhattan from Newark Penn Station (not to be confused with Penn Station in NYC) Trains run very frequently. PATH is particularly convenient if you want to go to lower Manhattan. There is parking right around the station. Take the GS Parkway or Turnpike to Newark, you want Route 21/McCarter Highway right into the station area. There is some construction going on around this area for the new hockey stadium that can make this area quite congested, which is another reason to consider going to Metropark. This area is not particularly great a night, but OK for walking to and from a parking lot within a few blocks of the station.

If you are going to be at the Jersey shore, you could also just take a train for bus, it may take a bit longer than driving, but all in all may be better than driving (as you may not be familiar with the roads and in summer there will be traffic, hunting around for (and paying) for parking etc. Look at the NJ Transit schedule which includes bus schedules. If you are in the Red Bank area or an area at the shore close to that, there is a high-speed ferry service that goes from Atlantic Highlands, Highlands or South Amboy to the South Street Seaport area in lower Manhattan and to 34th Street on the east side in midtown. The fare is about $20 one way for adults, although there are off-peak fares (after 9 am) round trip for about $25. I believe parking at the ferry piers in NJ is free, which is a big plus.
