Traffic around Cape Cod

I plan to visit Cape Cod in August. What time is traffic heaviest leaving the Cape area on a Sunday? How much time should I allow to get back to Boston?
Thanks.

Sorry, dawn to 9 pm..... Figure anywhere from 3 to 6 hrs. and consider alternative routes -- through Fall River, maybe.

Unfortunately there is no way to avoid the bridges.

Natalie,

Just came back from the Cape yesterday. My strategy in the past has always been to leave the cape around 7 or 8 p.m. and I had never found any traffic problems on route 6. Yesterday we decided to leave around 4 and since we were on route 6A we just stayed on it all the way to the Sagamore Bridge. Again no problem at all. So I would suggest after 7 p.m. if you take route 6 (the fastest road, 2 lane divided highway) or any time using route 6A a two lane road with lots of lights but also lots of antique shops if you like that sort of thing.

Can't comment on how long back to Boston since I was going North on 495 and not Route 3 to Boston.

Accidents of course can cause havoc and also keep in mind that if it rains on Sunday everyone wants to leave early and it makes for lots more traffic.

Have a good visit,
Sandra

I drove from the mid-cape (West Yarmouth) to Boston's Logan airport0 a two Sundays ago in 1 hour and 45 minutes. I left the cape real early (6 am) for a flight and drove thru without stopping once. While on was on the cape I had to travel back and forth 3 times to the Quincy area and returning back at night. For some strange reason traffic was light all times. Traffic has alaways been heavy on Sundays late morning through the afternoon.
