Thinking of moving to Tampa

I think Atlanta has much more to offer you than Tampa. The beach is one of the best things the area has to offer, but it's a good 30-40 minutes to a beach community from downtown Tampa. USF and UT attract a younger crowd, but outside of Tampa, the population is much older. You will find arts, theater, music etc, but not to the extent you will in Atlanta. Bottom line, at your age, if I were looking to make a change, it would not be to Tampa.

I'm not sure I agree with the above. I am in my 50's and live 150 miles south of Tampa, so not a good judge, but I have several younger friends who are "reps" in the Tampa area and think it is a wonderful place for people in their 20's and 30's. The areas around it are certainly older, especially St. Petersburg, but Tampa supposedly has a lot of things to offer the young professional. Granted it is a long shot from Atlanta, however. I really feel old when I go to restaurants and bars in Tampa with younger friends --particularly in the Hyde Park area, which is quite the "yuppie" hangout.

i've visited both cities numerous times (i live in orlando) and don't see much of a comparison. tampa, as with many FL cities is spread out...and of course the population numbers are very different. as you get toward the beach its a different vibe.....water sports, boating etc. of course tampa doesn't have the cultural/arts things happening like atlanta. why not come down for the weekend and check it out????

I live approximately 20 minutes from Tampa. If I were single, I would NOT choose Tampa. Stick with Atlanta or find another big city such as Chicago which has alot more to offer. Other than beaches, this area does not have anything to offer (I have lived here 28 years). When I was single, bars and beaches were all there were!

Lizards, not roaches? Sounds interesting. But to be accurate, termites are the critter of choice in the St. Pete area. And when put up a tent, it's to fumigate the little beasties. I was born in Atlanta and now have a house in Treasure Island, not far from Tampa. If you thrive on traffic and concrete, Atlanta's your place. The Buckhead scene can get mighty old fast, too. And the closest beach is at Altoona Lake. Florida is the future. Visit and check it out. Ciao.
