I wondered if anyone can help me with suggestions where we(husband and dog.. no kids this trip) could stay in order to see Big Bend.
The Trelingua lodge suggested by friends is full.
If anyone has any reccomendations that would be great. We have left it a little late , but didn't think we could get away, until today.

Have you looked at staying within Big Bend itself? Chisos Mountains Lodge is within the park, but it's probably booked up as well. It's still worth a try.

Thank you for that suggestion. The Chisos Lodges look just perfect.. but you were right they are full. Oh well. back to the drawing board guess.

We went at Thanksgiving time, it must have been ten years ago. This place is magic. It is a short car trip to Big Bend but you're in wide open spaces and it takes only a sneeze and you're there.

The Gage was my all time favorite place to stay. We did not stay in the old hotel, I don't remember exactly why. Instead we had two rooms next to each other in the newer addition. All adobe, mexican tile floors, terrific cowboy antiques in the room, just really a wonderful place. Neither my husband nor I rememeber eating there but we remember having drinks in the lobby.

I just noticed that you say you have a dog. I just don't know about dogs at the Gage.

aileenw, their web site says pet friendly! Don't shy away from those shared baths. This place does everything right, I'll bet it would not bother you at all.

Aileen -- The Gage Hotel is in Marathon & it is the closest town to the Park. Unfortunately, it is still about a 45 minute drive to the entrance. That wouldn't be too bad except that you need 2-3 days in BBNP & there are really no Park attractions near the entrance gate. There is still another 35-45 minute drive to the Visitor Center.

Dear everyone,
thank you for these great suggestions. The Gage sounds wonderful. I shall contact them today.
Actually my husband has come up with a good plan. As we are not American and all our family is 6000 miles away, Thanksgiving isnot such a big holiday for us. So.. he is may work through and take the following Monday Tuesday instead. That way, places will have more vacancies, the roads will be quieter and we may have more luck.

Then definitely try to get the Chisos Mt Lodge -- soooooooooo convenient & scenic.
