Thanksgiving in Southern Vermont

We hope to take a quick trip (2 nights/3days) to Southern Vermont next week to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. Any suggestions for towns, good lodgings, &/or activities for this time period would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

A couple ideas come to mind:
Manchester, VT: a resort town. Lots of shopping (outlets) restaurants. Hildene, the summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln is a nice place to spend a couple hours. The Equinox is probably THE place to stay in Manchester.
A ski resort: Vermont's major ski resorts will be open for the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition to skiing, many resorts have other activities like tubing, skating etc. Some places in SoVT to look into would be Stratton or Mount Snow. Killington also, but that is a bit further north.
Brattleboro, Vt: a "real" Vermont working town. Really funky shops and some good restaurants.
If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Woodstock, Bennington, and Brattleboro.
All those are little and quite places to be. Woodstock is further north than the other two and might be busy because of ski season starting. Woodstock is a very nice place to go.

I also put in a vote for Woodstock. It is definitely middle VT, but is lovely. There are many B&B's there that are quaint (we recently stayed at the Woodstock Inn and didn't think it was worth the $$). I've stayed at the Apple Butter Inn and thought the accommodations, food and owners were great.

Things to do in Woodstock -- there are a few restaurants and a bar (Bentley's, I think), they have local theater, you're very close to Killington resort (Killington has lots of restaurants/nightlife, especially during ski season), quaint shops in town, beautiful covered bridges. Don't miss the Queechee Gorge in Queechee, Simon Pearce glassblowing (also in Queechee) and Sugarbush Farms cheese making and maple syrup production. Enjoy!

Last month I was in Hancock and spent a few nights at the hancock Inn, we stayed an exrra night to meet with a real estate agent and have begun looking for something in the area -- thehotel dining room has been written up by Gourmet Magazine and although they have new owners the service was committed to providing top rate comfort. The Inn is within sight of a Paul Revere Bell that still rings on the hour - and the location is within a short ride to Vt. and Ma.

If you stay in Bennington you are mid-way between Manchester and Brattelboro. Manchester (30 miles north)has all the outlets, some craft and toy stores and tons of restaurants. Brattelboro (30-40 miles east) is not as touristy, but still interesting. In Bennington, try the Paradise Motor Lodge on Rt.9, great rooms and rates.

Weston, Weston, Weston!!

Close to Stratton, Magic, Bromley...that area. I recommend the Colonial House Inn wholeheartedly! Amazing food, lovely atmosphere and the innkeepers are a stitch! No to mention the rates are stellar, with a huge breakfast included. There are a lot of wonderful other inns in that area too...but no matter where you go, get started on reservations NOW! Weston has sweet country stores and great scenery---nice museums also in the area.
