Suspicious about price....too good to be true????

We are flying into SanFransisco on June 1 and driving up to Yosemite for a few days, then we are driving to Phoenix to visit family. The rental car we rented in San Fran will be dropped off in Phoenix..Our rental is withFox but the reservation was made through carrentals.com. EVERY other rental agency(thrifty avis hertz alamo dollar etc....) charges a HUGE drop off fee and the total price is 3 times .....and in a few cases more....3 times ....higher then Fox!!!!! I've called Fox twice to make sure they were still in business and confirm the price. The last time I called I even asked why it was soooooo much cheaper then all the others.....They had no explaination, just that they were. I'm happy about the price but suspicious. This sounds too good to be true and I don't want to be stuck with no car or a rental that costs a fortune. Has anyone every rented form them? Are they real? Thanks!

You are wise to wonder. Is there a Fox car rental in your area or at your local airport? Maybe you could go over and speak to a local person.

Check out these postings of problems with Fox. Even if you use them, you will be forewarned of potential issues.

Wow! Not one positive comment from previous customers. I would not do business with them ever, for any reason. It sounds like it is worth it to spend the extra few dollars from a reputable car company and not have the potential for actually spending twice as much. Good luck!

They're real, but there are reasons for their low prices. I rented from them years ago, not knowing that they had such a bad reputation, and my experience was trouble-free--so just be assured that they are not a scam. As to whether you want to risk having some of the issues other travelers have experienced over the years, that's up to you. A price 2/3 lower than any other may be worth it.

I had the same experience as NewbE - I rented locally when my car was in the shop and had no problems, but I've read my share of bad reviews about them.

I had read the mixed reviews as well. We rented in San Diego and turned it in at SFO with no problems and a great price. The vehicle had some evidence of use..dents and scratches...we made note of them prior to taking the car. I understand we were fortuate. Would we use them again? Probably.

Have you checked what the price would be renting directly through Fox rather than through currents.com? I would do that before putting a credit card on the line and looking at the fine print. For example did either site mention a mileage charge or did you have unlimited mileage?

Although the ad came from carrental.com it sent me directly to fox and yes i checked the price and keep checking the price almost daily. We did not have to give a credit card number and the milage is unlimited. There is a note on the ad saying they have worked out deals with californias surrounding states so pick up and dropoff charges will not be applied. I have also read some of the reviews on trip advisor....I do not care if the person at the counter is rude or if the car has a few dings(as long as they know I did not do it) I want it to be in good mechanical condition and I don't want any last minute surprizes....Ok so while I was typeing this I checked all the rentals again....actually Thrifty has gotten rid of the drop off fee so they're rental fee is 682.81 which is fantastic....alamo wants 2176.00 hertz wants 2250.15 and national wants 2233.32....I called and they said they are slowly starting to get rid of drop off fees so that is the real price.....there are no hidden fee. This price is about 50dollrs higher then fox but I feel more comfortable with Thrifty since we've used them several times. I'm glad I rechecked and I hope this info helps someone. Thank You for responding all!!!

Great idea. I think Thrifty is a much better choice for the "no surprises" factor.

Have fun. Be safe.
