Steptoe Butte and Palouse falls
Hi,
We are planning a trip to Steptoe Butte and Palouse falls this memorial day weekend. We will be driving from Seattle. Is this the right time of the year to visit the place. Do we get to see the different colors. We also plan to see Palouse Falls. Is there any thing else which we should not miss. We have no idea where to stay. Please suggest.
Cheers,

You're probably past the peak for green-on-green scenery from Steptoe Butte, but there ought to be plenty of water coming over Palouse Falls.
I'd probably stay in Dayton. The Weinhard Hotel is historic (translated: squeaky floors) but full of character. The Patit Creek Restaurant (just outside town, no website) is one of the best, if not the the best restaurant in Eastern Washington. http://www.weinhard.com/
Walla Walla is indeed a good alternative; lots of lodging and food choices. However if you're going this weekend, Walla Walla will probably be pretty crowded as it's graduation weekend for Whitman College, so lots of proud (and broke) parents will be around.
