My son will be leaving for Spain to attend the University of Sevilla. Has anyone been in that area? What can you share with me. I am having a bit of difficulty getting flights although yesterday I was able to finally get him to his destination. Only twelve hours before his first class starts. Not great but at this point I don't feel we have any choice. I am curious about any and all info you may have re: climate, people, restaurants, places to see. What you loved and what you hated.

All responses greatly appreciated. Thank YOU!

Hi,

Seville/Sevilla is lovely -- try to visit him while he's there! It's a very interesting place w/Mediterranean flavor tinged w/Moorish. Palms trees as well as evergreens, both old and new architecture. Warm, with nice "old city" section on the touristy side in the summer but that's okay -- cathedral and Alcazar palace, tower, and gardens are spectacular. It's definitely a student town, too, which will please him.

And if he starts feeling closed in, it's a quick trip to the south to Gibraltar (Africa! but forget Tangier) or a wonderful 2-hr. high-speed train ride to Madrid.
