Has anyone stayed at the Crescent View Beach Club or the Turtle Bay Resort? We're looking for something in early October a bit off the beaten path but not so far off that there's nothing else to do (i. e. restaurants, night life.)

Siesta Key is close to Sarasota (a beautiful city with a great harbor area) and to the other keys, including Longboat. Walk around St. Armand's Circle in Longboat with nice shops and eating places. Drive to the keys beyond that. We stayed on Siesta Key and enjoyed it immensely. The sunsets are extraordinary, as are the beaches. Drive down to the end point for a more isolated beach area that is beautiful. You will have the best of both worlds because of its quiet environment, but easy accessibility to other locales.

We stayed at the Calini Beach Club, which is a timeshare right across from Crescent Beach with fabulous sunsets. I believe they also rent out rooms. Although it is not inexpensive, we had a two-bedroom unit with two baths, full kitchen, small porch, etc.
It was quite spacious.

Unless you get really lucky - it's difficult to find a place for 5 or 6 nights. They generally rent for a minumum of 7 nights (1 week) and there are a number that rent for only an entire month. For the most part motels and hotels rent by the night.

Crescent View Beach Club is right by the south bridge on the beach side. They do rent daily. My good friend J.R is the manager there. The property was just sold to make room for new condo development, but that will not happen till next year. They have 1 and 2 bedroom condos, fully equiped with a full size kitchen. The beach area has some BBQ grills for the guests, and also there is a nice size pool. There are 3 premium 2 bedrooms with a HUGE balcony right over the beach, There are also 3 1 bedroom condos with a regular size balcony with a nice view of the beach. Behind these there are 9 more 2 bedroom condos with beach view, and then a second building with condos with no beach view. Obviously these are the less expensive.

Turtle Beach Resort is owned and operated by another good friend of mine, Dave and his lovely wife. They have 10 isolated cottages, 1 and 2 bedroom, each with a private deck area with a jacuzzis. They are located on the inland side, on the water, but the beach is across the street. They also have a pool and BBQ areas. Theye are almost at the southern tip of Siesta Key, a quiet area, although there are 3 or 4 restaurants within walking distance.

The main 'play' area of Siesta Key is the Village. It has numerous restaurants, nightclubs, shops. It's about 2 miles from Crescent View and about 5 miles from Turtle Beach Resort.
The area around Crescent View Beach Club is also somewhat commercial, with few retaurants and shops, but not as excitinfg as the Village. The one excellent place nearby is FANDANGO owned and operated by brothers Fred and Frankie(great friends) and they specialize in middle eastern and eastern european food. On weekends they have a great nighclub scene going on, although it's on the younger side.

Either place is a winner, although Turtle Beach is more of a romantic, quiet place, whereas CVBC is more commercial, but still a good location and great beach.
