Should we buy tickets now for L.A. to Charleston April 22-May 2? When do the airlines (United) usually have sales?

Any information on when airline tickets usually go on sale. We are looking at $480. for a round trip ticket from LA to Charleston on April 22-May 2 and are wondering if we should wait to see if there is a price reduction or book now? We would like to fly United for the frequent flier miles. Any information that you have would be appreciated.

I don't think that such a bad price! Also, if I'm not mistaken, that would be a fairly busy tourist season in Charleston.

Toni:

Do you have to fly into Charleston? United flies in to Greensboro, and I think you could save about $100 per ticket (I saw a quote LAX-Greeensboro for $323 pus tax; about ~380 total). Actually, I don't think you'll find too many more sales before then, since so many eastern cities are now at $200 round trip.

Hi Toni,

Greensboro, NC is easily 7 hours (each way) from Charleston, SC. Spend the $100 per person and save the drive.

If you're flexible with flying times you might try priceline.com. It was successful for us you just have to be able to leave between something like 6am and 10pm...$400-$500 seems a bit high. No go on flying into Greensboro...6-7 hr drive! And yes, that is their high season so be prepared to be around lots of folks.

One of the drawbacks of living in the Charleston area is that we have no competitive prices on airlines. It's always expensive flying through here!

Greensboro is definitely too far to enjoy any savings. However, check out VanGuard or others for flights that go into Myrtle Beach or Savannah (both 2 hours drive).

Good luck - and I know you'll love your visit to our beautiful city.

Download "Side-Step" to get a comparison of the flight costs available. I know there are a lot of inexpensive coast-to-coast fares out there (although Charleston isn't as easy a destination to get to as others).

Would you consider flying into Atlanta? It's about a five hour drive to Charleston and you're likely to find airfare for significantly less than what you've found into Charleston.
