Hi
We are going to be in Los Angeles on 25th & 26th Nov 04 and wanted to know if shops would be open on Thanksgiving Day and when the sales start!! Also good places to get some bargains (clothes mainly)

WHERE in the Los Angeles area? With some 100 cities in LA county and over 4,000 square miles, I could recommend many places to head for after-Thanksgiving sales. And that's just in LA county. The greater LA area, including Orange County, is 4,800 square miles. And what about heading to the desert outlets? Or those down in Carlsbad?
A few shops will be open Thanksgiving day, limited hours if I had to guess. The sales all start the day AFTER, however. And everyone will be in the stores on Friday. Good luck going anywhere and trying to find parking if you arrive after 10:30 AM.

Wal-Mart and KMart often jump the gun and start their sales earlier, and, IIRC, they were both opened last year on T-giving. But I seriously doubt you are coming to LA to shop at the *Marts. Generally speaking, I have never found the day after to be a great bargain day for clothing. As a professional bargain hunter (my super-hero super power), I have found the day after to be very crowded with inexperienced shoppers who are going nuts over special purchases and advertised "specials", with manufactured markdowns but the real bargains will come much later in the holiday season.

here_today is right-- and the outlet malls are zoos the weekend after Thanksgiving, so even if bargains are to be had, the experience is remarkably unpleasant. I usually spend that weekend in the gym, working off the Thanksgiving gorge-fest.
