CAPH - If your Husband likes Prarie Home COmpanion, he'll probably like the movie. I sure did! Great character movie. No deep plot.
I like What Not to Wear as well. (No more tapered leg jeans!) I may be even the bigger loser because all that I've watched lately I've seen before! |
Scarlett, not fair! But, we are always happy to have you drop in & say "Hello"! You have to do something "loserish" to be here tonight!;)
I said Mashed Potatoes.... with butter...lots of butter! So...do I get a prize?? |
Thanks for the recommendation, Austin. He says he wants to see the movie but every time we suggest going he says he's not in the mood for a movie! We'll probably end up seeing it when it's on On Demand!
|
I second the recommendation of Prairie Home Companion..loved it :)
wow :D OK..loserish....I ate all of my french fries tonight ? I dipped them in mayo first :@) |
Hmm, I think I went the other weigh. I am a gainer after my time on the beach. Two cheddar sausages and two s'mores later... not even thinking about alcohol at this point..
seetheworld~ if you are reading, I'll do the cranberry freeze tomorrow, after the sugar and fat high have worn off. uuuuuggghhhhhhh. |
The kitchen floor is officially clean!!!
Scarlett....french fries dipped in mayo??? Eeeewwww. (Sorry). |
French Fries dipped in mayo....That's like...potato salad! Did somebody say "potato"??
|
lol, BuffaloGirl, told ya, I'm a loser :)
|
French fries dipped in garlic mayo are the best! Frites with aioli (spelling?).
|
You said potato , wow, I said Potato. :)
|
CAPH! yes!! ((L)) chased with Prosecco ((D))
|
Ok...DH is home from work and we are just going to have cocktails on the patio, versus going out. I feel SO much better now. I'm officially a loser. :D
GT, we wanna see pics of your pedicure, too. ;) I think that in order for us all to not be losers tonight we should find some poor woman in labor. We could all do the delivery together since we are well trained from "Baby Story," but we'd just have to make sure that we know "What Not to Wear" while doing such. :D Anyone know of Linden, NJ? DH is thinking of transferring there, and he is only on his first cocktail. Should I drink more or take him seriously? |
Or with Belgian beer!
|
Drink more & then we will go & deliver that baby! Linden? Why?
|
Loved your tribute to TLC, Statia!
And, on second thought, maybe fries dipped in remoulade are even better! |
I just had a thought, I will have to tell DH that I have to host a Fodorite GTG so I can't go to Linden. :D
THEN, I'll have another cocktail. :) |
Is Linden just outside NYC? Or am I thinking of Lyndenhurst? I think some friends of ours lived in Linden 20 years or so ago.
|
We just got the road map out and Linden is just outside of Manhattan...hence DH's thought. But, it's only a thought for now. :)
|
Linden is about 30 min from Manhattan with no traffic ( I think)..it is past Newark..
If you could be closer to NYC/Bergen County, you would like it better, or near Short Hills etc..look up Short Hills Mall ( you will understand) :) I think Rahway is near Linden, State Prison..so I kinda think you don't want to live in Linden. But the Garden State Parkway is around there, easy to get to Linden from a home in a nice town. This is all according to memories that are already almost 3 years old :O |
Not only is my kitchen floor clean, I just did a load of laundry!!!
French fries with vinegar and salt.....now you're talking. Mayo??? No, no, no....that's nasty, isn't it? |
Nooooo, I used to think it sounded awful, but....don't try it, you will get hooked too.
|
Alright, Ms. Scarlett...DH is now sitting here with the road atlas and although "work" would be in Linden, he's wondering about living in Avenel, Milburn, or Springfield. We wouldn't want to live in Linden, but not too far for work issues and traffic.
He's also thinking about property on Governor's Island. :D Ok...this is getting scarey. We've been islanders for 13 years. Why is he bringing this up now? :) Ah....he's got rock fever. Usually a one week trip to the States cures him. I guess it's time to book a ticket. GT, we're still waiting for that pedicure pic. :) |
I have ALWAYS eaten my fries with mayo...ever since I was a kid. When I first moved here everyone assumed I was Dutch when I ordered mayo with my fries. :)
My other fave is peanut sauce with fries. Yum-yum! |
Fries with good malt vinegar, mmmm! I try very hard not to eat fries 'cause of the transfats. But they're one of my favorite foods. And you guys are driving me crazy!
|
Millburn!!!!
A beautiful town! Not sure about the others..Governors Island? I think I started eating fries with mayo after a trip to London. My son eats them that way from living in Japan ( they even like mayo on sushi)...now I am pickier about the mayo, I ask for aioli sometimes :) |
Govorner's Island was just a joke. It's abandoned now. :) Thanks for the heads up on Milburn, though.
My sister turned me on to ailoi when she was visiting here after a trip to Spain. My BIL made it for us and since it has a mayo base, I was hooked. Never tried it with fries, but I'll bet that is awesome. |
I eat my french fries with Dijon Mustard..learned that many years ago from friends in Italy.
|
Fries with dijon mustard, LoveItaly? Interesting.
Just a thought...As wow pointed out, there's a similarity between fries dipped in mayo and potato salad. And, really, is dipping fries in mayo all that different from chips in a mayo based dip? While sour cream based dips may be more common, it's not that unusual to see a recipe that calls for a combination of sour cream and mayo. |
Statia- you can not move from the island until you host the Fodor's Convention 2007.
|
Statia--Living in Linden will make you the all time SNL but there are other nice places w/in commuting distance...no palm trees, trade winds, killer view of the ocean though and snow in the winter. I grew up about 45min. from there--as you know, completely different lifestyle from the Caribbean but you would be close to NYC which I looooove! (And warning: housing prices in NY/NYC/N. NJ can cause cardiac arrest.)
|
matnikstym, that's why I told hubby we have to stay here for now. ;)
OWJ, I agree about the housing prices. We checked that out last night out of curiosity and pretty much said, "Nahhh." We'll stay here for now. :) Cardiac arrest is right. There just happened to be a good position opening up there with DH's company and it WOULD be nice to be so close to NYC. However, we'd probably stay so much busier than here that we'd never be able to enjoy the city anyhow. :) So, I think we'll hang here in the Caribbean a bit longer for now. Thanks for the tips, though. Never know when they might come in handy in the future. |
Thanks to all of you and your incessant talk about fries, DH and I went to Hopleaf this evening/late afternoon for their wonderful mussels, Belgian style, and frites with aioli! We hadn't been there in over a year (they don't allow anyone under 21 and the last few times we'd been in the neighborhood we'd had one or both kids with us). But it was just as yummy as we remembered. I highly recommend it to anyone who'll be in the Chicago area. It's on Clark in Andersonville.
|
Wow! Sorry I missed this marathon. I'm sitting in my hotel in South Beach reading Fodors...does that qualify me to join the club?
Statia!! I live about 3 towns away from Linden. I agree you probably don't want to live there, but nearby there are nicer towns! If you want serious discussion & suggestions you know where to find me. :) As OWJ says, housing in the NJ burbs near NYC is pricy... I've been so busy with work lately I've hardly had time for my Fodors friends. I miss you guys! Trish |
Trish, long time no hear. I hope you're doing well. Thanks for the info. I'll be in touch if we start to seriously consider it. :)
|
Sorry I missed the post yesterday... spent the day in Niagara-on-the-Lake wine country tasting the new releases, followed by dinner at Wolfgang Puck, a night at the Niagara Fallsview Casino, and breakfast poolside at Pillor and Post.... Floor is dirty, clothes unwashed and I still have a wine buzz, but I thought this post needed at least ONE travel story!!!
|
What?!? Traveling from the suburbs to Andersonville for mussels and frites doesn't qualify as a travel story?!
|
GoTravel: How did you & the skirt do today?
Gary: You are so not a loser....go away & come back when it's just you & a bottle of wine out in the vineyard on a Saturday night & you are singing "Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine..." And,Trish, you do not have "The Big L" on your forehead either. Sorry. Maybe if you sit in that SOBE room all by yourself & eat chips & drink wine & tell us you gained 10 pounds from eating chips & drinking wine then maybe you will qualify. Wanna try? |
Ok, sorry. Not officially a looser. I'll have to work on it.
After I posted I went out and drank Margaritas with the girls...fortunately don't have to be anywhere too early Monday morning! |
Sorry I didn't email photos of my pedi but my husband certainly had a good laugh!
I played excellent yesterday! Thanks to a marathon sessions of golf lessons from two of my pros, I looked like a rock star! The skirt is now filthy dirty (it is white) after playing golf in the partial rain but it held up great! Trish, hope you are having fun in South Beach! Statia, I think it would be very tough going from an island to a NYC suburb. |
