I like La Fonda, which is located on the Plaza (the central square). It is very nice and you certainly know that you are in Santa Fe. It is one of the more expensive hotels in Santa Fe, but compared to rates in many cities still reasonable in my opinion.

If you're willing to walk a little, the Compound at Fort Marcy rents condos for an extremely reasonable rate compared to the hotels. It's not a bad walk into town, but it's at the top of a hill, so it can be tiring. They have an indoor pool and hot tub (I think). Breakfast is included in the rate
All have kitchens and fireplaces.
I'd also recommend the Inn of the Dancing Sun, a group of condos also in a quaint courtyard right outside the center of town, basically across the street from the center, about 4 blocks from the Plaza. We paid $150 a night. They also have kitchens and fireplaces, very beautiful furnishings. Our unit was close to 600 sq. feet.
If I was traveling along, I think I'd prefer one relaxing in a condo where I could stretch out in the living room or patio, rather than a beautiful hotel room with just a bed and a table.

I recently stayed in Santa Fe as a single female. Inn on the Alameda is awesome but a little pricey--around $200 per night but well worth it if you can swing it. I also stayed at Hotel St. Francis which is a historic hotel. I was in a "petite" room for 1--small but nice bed, TV, bathroom---for $99. Both are conveniently located and within minutes of the plaza. Have a great time!

Just wanted to add something to the last post: Inn on the Alameda has a great breakfast buffet and happy hour which is included in the rate. The room was absolutely wonderful with beautiful decor, plush bed, and huge bath. Well worth it if you like luxury.
