San Jose & Monterey Resonably Priced Restaurants

Hi: We will be staying in San Jose for 4 days in the early part of Oct and we are looking for some very resonable priced restuarants-nothing fancy- fish and Italian food are our favorites. Any suggestions:

We will then be going on to Monterey-Carmel-Pacific Grove and Moss Landing.
Any suggestions as to very moderately priced restaurants?

Here are some of my favorites:
By the Bucket - on Stevens Creek,
Frankie,Johnnie,& Luigi Too - on Prospect Road,
Giorgio's - on Foxworthy,
Al Castello - corner Bascom & Camden.
These are NOT tourist spots but are local neighborhood restaurants that have good food with moderate prices. Enjoy

Sorry, didn't see the rest of your message...you MUST go to Phil's in Moss Landing. Anyone will be able to tell you where it it. Wonderful clam chowder, or calimari, or chioppino (SP?)or anything else!

Peppers is one of my favorites in PG - it's Mexican - fun - very good menu - nice service - delicious food.

Wow. San Jose is a large city. You can have just about anything you want. There is a nice, fun restaurant in Willow Glen called Aqui - sort of a southwest flair. Very casual. Do you like Asian food? There is plenty of that - mainly Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese - everywhere.

Tell us more about your likes.

Aqui's in Willow Glen (and on Snell) is one of my fave's. I live in San Jose. I also like Willow Street (also in Willow Glen), and TAW's suggestions. Downtown, in the San Pedro Square area, has a Sonoma Chicken Coop with a great dining patio.
In Monterey area my faves are:
Monterey's Fish House
Red House Cafe (in Pacific Grove)
Bahama Billy's in Carmel (at the Barnyard)

The Fishwife is good and casual. On the wharf, Domenico's is good as is Cafe Fina and reasonable priced.

In Carmel, we enjoyed Little Napoli for a really nice Italian dinner. ***kim***

In Monterey, we liked Fandango. It's French Mediterranean. Looks funky from the outside, charming on the inside. Great service. Not ridiculously expensive, but on the high side. You'd need reservations, unless you go really early (like we did), at 5:30. I had scallops, my husband had shrimp, my son had steak. All excellent.

Thanks for all of your great suggestions.
We will be staying in San Jose on Highland Drive and also at Hayes Dolce on Edenvale Ave.

We generally prefer seafood, Italian and vegetarian restaurants.

Aqui's Cal Mex Grill has a location at Snell & Blossom Hill which I think would be fairly close to Hayes Dolce. They also have vegitarian options:http://www.aquicalmex.com/menu/index.php

In San Jose:
For quick mexican food, Burrito Factory is always good - there is a location on Blossom Hill and Snell as well as one on Almaden Expressway near Branham.

In you like Vietnamese food, check out a place called Pho My on Snell between Blossom Hill and Chynoweth.

There is a good chinese restaurant on Santa Teresa near Blossom Hill called Mandarin Gourmet.

In answer to where we will be staying:
First at Hotel Valencia (I already asked about the restaurants in Santana Row) and secondly at Hayes Dolce.

Agree with the recommendation of Peppers in Pacific Grove.
For inexpensive, though high-quality Italian, try Caruso's in Monterey, a fun family-style place.

Most people refer to Hayes as Hayes Mansion, just so you know. The Dolce part is just the company that's running it. That's in South San Jose. My favorite San Jose restaurant is 71 St. Peter downtown.

I would suggest that you check out Roy's in Pebble Beach at the Inn at Spanish Bay - Great location and wonderful food...
