San Fran in the rain-what to do

Making our first ever trip to the west coast beginning this weekend in SF. Sounds like a good chance for rain (what a surprise). What are the best bets for sightseeing and things to do in the rain? We're staying in the Nob Hill area if that helps.

Go to the cable car museum. It's a free exhibit that shows the history of the cable cars and tells how they operate. Part of the museum is underground and you can see the actual wheels and cables working.

Aug, the heaviest rain is expected Thursday into Friday, so you may miss most of it. It's our first rain of the season, yea!

The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) is good. Shopping is an option, and the big department stores are located fairly close to each other. A long, leisurely lunch in a good restaurant might be an idea.

Other SF dwellers may give you additional ideas.

Welcome to SF!

Also, if it's your first trip, you might enjoy the SF Gray Line tour. It is a tour that takes place on busses shaped like cable cars. My husband and I took this a couple of weeks ago on a day that turned out to be rather chilly and inclimate.

Sit in the middle of the car and shut the doors at both ends -- it warms up nicely inside. The tour will take you to the main highlights of the city and the guides tell fun facts about SF and its history. The tour we took was about 3 hours. It sure beat walking/driving to all of the locations and the guide was happy to recommend local restaurants, shops, etc.

Pack a (appropriate for the predicted temps) jacket with a hood and and umbrella. No matter where you're going, if you're dressed comfortably for being out and about no matter what the weather, you can enjoy everywhere you planned to go.
