Road trip: Austin, Texas to Pensacola, Florida
I was thinking about taking a road trip to see a friend in Pensacola, Florida. He will be in the Naval Aviation School and only has weekends off so was looking for places that would make the trip interesting on the way out there.
I was thinking about going the week of my university's spring break March 12th to the 20th.
I would be going with friends and since we have school the following week maybe flying back. seeing as how it is only an 11 hour drive.
Any Suggestions on places to see and things to do while we are there in Pensacola?

Spend one day actually visiting things at the Naval Air Station. Thursday March 18 would be ideal, as the Blue Angels practice at 8:30 AM.
Then you could visit the nearby National Museum of Naval Aviation

From there go to Fort Barrancas (there is a daily tour of Fort Barrancas at 2:00) and the Advanced Redoubt

You can also go canoeing (probably still a little cool for tubing) on the Blackwater River NE of Pensacola.
You can do trips that range in length from a couple of hours to 3 or 4 days.

Of course, there are also the beaches. Perdido Key will be closer to the Naval Air Station.
Santa Rosa Island is more of a drive, but it includes Pensacola Beach at one end and Navarre Beach at the other, with undeveloped national seashore land in between. East of Pensacola Beach is Fort Pickens, another old fort you can explore.
