Road Trip around Seattle - 3/4 days

if as you expressed in one of your posts you're concerned about being tired from your flight then i'm not sure gardyloo's plan takes that into account. overnighting in ashford would give you the chance to spend some time in mt rainier np the next morning if you're too pooped on the 14th. so i'd do that plan in reverse if you're going with that.
i'm also not as big a fan of the east side of the cascades as gardyloo is so i personally wouldn't spend the time driving over that way with such limited time. the one exception would be that if you do go to portland then you should see the gorge but that's an easy drive from portland.
if you want to prioritize scenery/outdoors over cities that's one thing but seattle and portland are definitely NOT interchangeable.

I just wonder if in gardyloo's plan we will just keep driving...which is why my initial plan was to do one night in rainier, one night in/near st helens and one night in portland, at some point we'd like to see the gorge.
