Yes, look up the Delta Queen, and do it as soon as possible, since if you buy your tickets enough in advance, they are much less expensive. Otherwise, it's a pricey proposition. We went round trip from New Orleans up the intercoastal waterway and the Atchafalaya and down the Mississippi in December, and enjoyed it, but found the side trips to be fairly expensive and not always that worthwhile, so be choosy about them. And please report back to us after your trip! Enjoy.

I've taken 15 Delta Queen Riverboat trips in the past 6 years. Several of them departed or arrived in New Orleans. I've taken the Memphis to New Orleans trip several times. I'm writing this reply in Feb. 2006. The Delta Queen Company was servely affected by Hurricane Katrina. The compan does not plan to resume trips out of New Orleans until the Spring or Summer of 2007. I had two different summer 2006 trips planned on the American Queen - which were cancelled. I like to take the American Queen ship as it offers single accommodations. The scenery out of New Orleans is factories, industrial the first few days, but then gets prettier as you get closer to Natchez and Vicksburg. I can highly recommend the cruises.
