Restaurant Suggestions for Brooklyn, NY
My husband and I are heading to Brooklyn for a basketball game at the Barclay Center and will be staying at the Sheraton. I'm looking for lunch/dinner suggestions in the area. We are particularly fond of Mexican, Italian, delis and steak houses. Nothing fancy, just really great food is all we ask! Thanks!

Well, Peter Lugar is in Brooklyn. Not convenient to the Barclays Center, but it sure hits the "steak house" requirement.
Wouldn't go for Mexican in NY generally unless it's a really well-known and top-notch resto. NY isn't the Mexican cuisine capital of the country.
This place is right down the street from the arena and its Zagat rating is through the roof. http://www.mob-usa.com

Thanks for the suggestions!
We will be traveling by cab everywhere so it doesn't necessarily need to be by the Barclays Center or hotel, but thought it would give people an idea of our location. Thanks so much! Peter Luger was on my thought list. We've been to Benjamin, started by former Peter Luger chef. Outstanding!
Anyone have thoughts on Spumoni Gardens v. Juliana v. Grimaldis (I understand Juliana took over old Grimaldi?) for fantastic pizza? Other suggestions? These are just a few I've had mentioned to me... Thanks again!

You're in luck, because there are two AMAZING pizza places just a 10 minute walk up Atlantic Avenue from Barclay Center.
Our personal favorite is Sottocasa

The other is Krescendo - fabulous new pizza place on Atlantic Avenue that just got a glowing review from the NY Times.

Frankie's 457 for Italian is a neighborhood gem:

Across the street from Frankie's is another great neighborhood restaurant, Buttermilk Channel...delicious new American.:

There are 2 great restaurants on Atlantic down towards Henry St (near your hotel) - Colonie and Chez Moi.

I personally would skip Peter Luger's and go to Prime Meats in Carroll Gardens. The food is better and service is wonderful:

I might get flamed for this, but Grimaldi's is a terrible tourist trap. I would go to Juliana over Grimaldi's if only to escape the line. And I think Sottocasa is better than either option.

PS - I could throw a snowball at Barclay Center from my stoop and the Sheraton is one of the hotels we've blocked for our wedding. Let me know if you have any other questions about this area of Brooklyn.
