Me & My boyfriend are thinking of going on holiday in june 2003, going to Asheville for a few days, Myrtle beach for a week and then Charlston, we are travelling from England and have 3 weeks holiday. Does anyone have any other ideas as we are not set on these places yet or any recommendations of cheap accommodation and Cheap flights to these places.
Thanks Lou

I can only comment on Myrtle Beach. I would choose Kingston Plantation. I am not sure if they would meet your budget but they are very nice for Mrytle Beach. As for cheap flights, well it is to early to say right now. I would just check expedia.com bestfares.com. You can also try doing a search in the text box for Charlston and other areas as perhaps these subjects have been covered before.

Asheville, MB, and Charleston would be nice. I agree with the other poster that Kingston would be the best place to stay. The beach area in that section of town is great. If you can't swing Kingston, go non-oceanfront at Ocean Creek Resort.
In Charleston, stay downtown. It isn't worth it to stay outside the historic distric and try and park. Any of the B&Bs would be great.
In Asheville, either stay at a B&B, or if you can, The Grove Park Inn.

I think Asheville and Charleston are great choices, I'm not a big Myrtle Beach fan. You might consider spending a week in the historic distric of Charleston and a week on one of the nearby beaches (ISle of Palms, Folly, etc.)
It will be hard to find cheap in the historic district, however. You might do better to rent a house a couple of streets back from the beach on one of the above mentioned islands. Both are less than 30 minutes to drive into the city, and I don't find parking that bad.
As for Asheville, I hope you are outdoors-types. Asheville is perfect for hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, etc. Not bad for just sitting on a porch and enjoying the view either.

Myrtle Beach is not my thing but you may enjoy it.. pretty built up and commercialized. If you are on a budget the Grove Park Inn in Asheville will be too high.. I've stayed there twice and while it is nice I did not find it a "to die for "place". In nearby Hendersonville, which is a cute town too, we stayed at a B and B called the Waverly Inn.. very cute, cool owners and not that pricey.
If you go to Charleston, I would also drive another hour and go to Savannah.. also very pretty and cool.

Louise,
You have made good choices because all 3 are totally different. Asheville is a beautiful place to visit but other than the Biltmore House and Chimney Rock, there's not much to do. As said before, if you're the "outdoors" type who loves to hike and sightsee, you'll love it.
Myrtle Beach is commercialized but that just gives you a never-ending array of different things to do. You can enjoy the beach during the day, enjoy great seafood , and take in an "oldies" or country music show in the evening. There are also clubs, amusements parks....anything you can imagine.
Charleston will be a more "laid back" place also. Lots of history to be explored but not much else to do unless you look for it. They have beautiful gardens and parks to explore. I once saw a beautiful garden wedding in the Spring in Charleston. It was like something out of a dream. Edisto Island is near Charleston but away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It might be a nice place to stay and drive into the city when you want to.
Are you planning to fly into Asheville and then rent a car and drive to Myrtle Beach and Charleston? It would definitely be cheaper than flying to all 3 places. Myrtle Beach and Charleston are only a couple of hours apart. Also, Myrtle Beach is probably 5 or 6 hours from Asheville. I hope you have a wonderful trip to the U.S.

Good choices on Asheville and Charleston, but I don't care for MB. If you want amusements and flash, then MB is the place. If you want restful and natural beauty then go to Hilton Head (near Charleston) instead. Good place to stay in Asheville is the Esmeralda Inn (http://www.esmeraldainn.com). Close to the city, but quiet and gives you a good sense of the beauty of North Carolina. Has a great restaurant and breakfast included. Price is also good. For Charleston stay in the Historic area. A good buy is the Anchorage Inn which is near the river walk area (breakfast again included, along with wine & cheese in the afternoon)www.anchoragencharleston.com
