Rainy night in Georgia (and rainy days too)

Hi all. We're going to Savavnnah this weekend and the forecast calls for thunderstorms. We had all sorts of great plans centered around sunny weather, and NOW they tell me it actually rains in GA?? Of course our plans will not be hindered by light rain, but if it's storming then we need more ideas for indoor activities. So please share with me your favorite indoor place in Savannah. Thanks.

P_M, it would not DARE rain you out of Savannah!

I checked weather.com and
Friday -
"scattered" Tstorms
Saturday -
"isolated" Tstorms
Sunday -
"scattered" showers

I don't think you're going to get rained out.

A few of my favorite things -
The SCAD store (original artwork/ items made by SCAD students and faculty)
the Grypphon Tea Room across the street
The Telfair Museum of Art
a tour of the First African Baptist Church - http://www.oldestblackchurch.org/index.htm
Call for tour info - next to City Market and Vinnie's Van Go Go pizza
A trolley tour
tours of any of the historic homes
Juliette Gordon Lowe home (founder of Girl Scouts)
private time for you and hubby
a drink and appetizer in the tavern in the basement of the Old Pink House

Please help us pray for rain!!!! we are in a serious drought situation.

a 30% chance of scattered thundershowers is what the Weather Channel is showing. That usually means that it might sprinkle for a minute or two over on the western side of the county. I wouldn't worry about it.
Anyway, thundershowers seldom last long enough for you to find your umbrella.

If it does rain, just plan on seeing more of the museums. Have you thought about The Ships of The Sea museum or the Jepson Art?

I wish you good weather, but I honestly hope it will rain a lot. LOL My lawn is gasping it's last!!

aileen NO, stop doing your rain dance!!

OK, let's compromise. I'll pray for rain through the end of this week, then a sunny weekend. Deal??

Thanks for the replies so far. Rain will not ruin our trip, we just have to make a new plan.

Wait one cotton-picking minute! You mean to tell me that you want advice for your visit to GA and you aren't fitting Starrsy and I in to the itinerary?? Hmmmm.

It's been a couple of years since I went to Savannah so my info wouldn't be current; however, my SIL and BIL are in the process of moving there (well, he's already down there...) so I'll try to remember to ask her for some suggestions and post back later.

Hey OWJ, I'm open to a mini-GTG if anyone is up for it. And bring the babies.

OWJ, ya wanna jump in the van (captain chairs in the second row for car seats) and drive down on Sunday? I need to work in Savannah in the next week or so and Monday would work.

We could crash PM's dinner on Sunday night - or at least have them over for coffee and dessert. You and OWJ 3&4 could relax while I do some work.

A lot of driving with babies, but worth a thought...

OWJ, sorry I overlooked your question. No Atlanta this time, not even the airport. Maybe we should have flown Delta.

Should I tell her???? My husband says I should. It's one of those things I'll feels guilty about if I don't.

Have you been reading about the forest fires in South Georgia? Well, the last few mornings have been smoky here, but it has cleared up early. It's 1:00 pm now, and it may have gotten worse. We have been out and about since 9:00 and we are both hacking. If it doesn't rain, or if the wind doesn't shift, it's not going to be nice if any of you have a respiratory problem. If you are all hale and hearty, you probably won't have a problem.

If you take a tour, make sure it's in an air conditioned vehicle.

Here's hoping that the wind shifts and, sorry, I will continue my rain dance.

I heard something about fires in GA on the news but I didn't know it was that bad. We've had similar problems in TX and it isn't fun to have smoke in the air. If there is rain this weekend, I hope it helps put out the fires. Or better yet, I hope the rain comes BEFORE the weekend, puts out the fires, then it's sunny by Saturday afternoon.

OK then, keep up your dance.

The fires were contained - and then started back up.

The smoke goes in the direction of the wind. A Fodorite reported that the smoke was bad at his B&B north of Orlando. I've caught a whiff - but no smoke - in middle GA. I don't see any smoke on the satellite map at weather.com.

Chances are you'll be fine.

Starrsy--In my pre-mommy days, I would've been all for a last minute road trip but now...not so much. I actually did seriously think about going and OWJ2 was fine w/the idea but the logistics made my head hurt. Thanks for the invite, though!!!

PM--Would've loved to meet ya. Why don't you make your next trip to Atlanta??

I know. That's a long time in the car with little ones. Anytime you want to hitch a ride to Savannah for a getaway, just let me know. I head that way on a regular basis.

How inconvenient for us that P_M did not plan her trip around her GA buddies!

It's not the car ride that I think would be the hardest but the daytime. They usually sleep in the car!

And I agree w/ya that PM needs to think of us first when planning a trip!

<sigh> Oh silly me. I promise it won't happen again. I'll be a better planner next time.

;-)

Really, I do hope to meet OWJ someday, and of course I would love to see Starrsy again.

Paging P_M - did you have a nice trip?
Did the weather hold for you?
Did the smoke blow the other way?
Did you have a marvelous time in Savannah!?!?!

I've been wondering too. It rained on Sunday and I feel that no matter how much we needed rain, I am sorry if my rain dance spoiled her weekend.

The wind did reverse and blow towards Florida. And THAT was a welcome relief! I feel for those that are living in that mess. Their lungs must be full of crud by now.

aileen, I hold you personally responsible for the weather on Sunday.

;-)

Actually it wasn't half as bad as I expected. Saturday and Monday were perfect, Sunday was the only day with some rain. The forecast called for rain all day, but it was more like half a day. Overall I was quite happy with the weather and Savannah was fantastic!! We've just returned in the last 30 minutes and we are dead tired, as we've been up since 4am today, but I'll get a report out soon.
