Question for those living in San Francisco
I'm going to be in SF for a girls' weekend in December. We have tickets for "The Santaland Diaries" at the Off-Market Theater on Mission, and were thinking of having dinner at Maya beforehand. My question: Is it an okay area for four of us to walk at night from the restaurant to the theater? It doesn't look too far, and I've walked a bunch after dark in SF near the Union Square/Financial district where there are always a ton of people, but don't know too much about this area. Thanks.

Go north on 2nd street and then West on Mission for a couple of blocks. You'll pass the SF MOMA and Metreon. Lots of folks around the Metreon so you won't be isolated. It is a fairly safe area (much more so than a couple of blocks further west).
You might want to taxi back to your hotel afterwards though.

Maya is at 2nd I believe and Off Market is between 5th and 6th--so not a long walk. Early evening Mission Street will be busy and fine. With the new Bloomingdale between 4th and 5th and the 5th Street Parking Garage, Moscone traffic, as well as people going home, there are lots of people out and about.

There is a whole new vertical shopping center to explore, that includes Bloomies and Nordstroms. BTW second the recommendation to take a cab back from show, Mission will be less busy later at night--not dangerous per se--you will just feel a little more vulnerable that's all. Do not recommend walking up to Market after show--too many street people.
