Private Tour of Sweet Auburn

I'm looking for a private tour guide for me and my niece who will be visiting me in Atlanta. Specifically, I'd like a tour on Friday, April 22nd of the Sweet Auburn area. My 14 yo niece loves history and I think that the civil rights movement and Sweet Auburn would be a great place to take her. We both love history and what has shaped the world we live in. We are not African American. My niece at the tender age of 14 has already lived in China, traveled around the world, including Portugal, the DR, South Africa, just to name a few. Does anyone know of or have any suggestions about a good tour guide.....one who would welcome the opportunity to show two "white" girls, one southern (me....although I've lived all over) and my niece, the Sweet Auburn area, including the MLK site. I want my niece, who lives outside Boston and is quite informed about that part of our American history, to learn about the civil rights movement, how it came about, how it has shaped our history as a nation, and where we are now, both positive and negative. Many thanks to anyone who responds.

The Atlanta Preservation Center offers regular walking tours of neighborhoods in Atlanta but the Sweet Auburn tour is only available for special group tours. A phone number is given. I'd give them a call to see if they have any suggestions -

Thanks. I had looked at that, but I'm really looking for a private tour. I do appreciate your taking time to respond.

I understand that. My suggestion is to call that number to see if they have a contact who can arrange a private tour.

Another idea is to contact the APEX museum -
http://www.apexmuseum.org/HOME.html

It's a small museum in the Sweet Auburn neighborhood. Their website states -
"Meet our knowledgeable docents, as they share educational information to the young and young at heart. Learn about Africa and African American people from resourceful guides as they help bring your APEX Museum visit to life! You are sure to learn something great during your visit to The APEX Museum."

Museums such as the APC and APEX know people who have the knowledge base you are looking for and may be able to offer suggestions for a private tour of the neighborhood.
