PITTSBURGH TO MAINE ROAD TRIP
HI - I AM DRIVING MY FAMILY (SPOUSE, 3 KIDS, 2 DOGS) FROM PITTSBURGH TO ROUND POND, MAINE FOR 2 WEEKS IN AUGUST. KIDS ARE 10, 7, AND 5. I'D LIKE TO TAKE 2 DAYS TO DRIVE AND STOP SOMEWHERE OVERNIGHT ON THE WAY THERE AND ON THE WAY BACK. THE TWO ROUTES DO NOT HAVE TO BE IDENTICAL AND I'D LIKE TO STOP 1 ADDITIONAL TIME POSSIBLY TO SEE SOMETHING GREAT ALONG THE WAY. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR THE BEST ROUTES AND GOOD MIDWAY STOPPING POINTS? I'D APPRECIATION ANY INPUT YOU HAVE. THANKS VERY MUCH!

Not exactly on the way but not too far out is Cooperstown - kids might like Baseball Hall of Fame.
Another option is Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts. Its a living history museum recreating the life in a small village in early 19th century. I loved it as a kid. right on your route (assuming 81 to 84 to 90 to 290 to 495 to 95)
6 Flags New England is in Springfield area - decent amusement park.
Two suggestions to get more responses is to give us an idea of your interests and to avoid using all caps - its kind of like shouting.

No problem on the caps. another option that might work for you is to stop at Mystic Seaport. There's an aquarium and a living history museum on New England's seafaring past. Might be a bit out of the way - 45 minutes I'm guessing.

Just came back from a wedding in Pittsburgh to Western Mass, what a long, boring drive, 8 hours. The thing is you may be limited because of the dogs. I was trying to think of where you could go and thought of staying in campgrounds that have cabins. That gives you the best of being outdoors, pets and family bonding. With that there is a campgound in Sturbridge, MA and Mystic, CT.
You can check out Old Sturbridge Village for their website (but google campgrounds in Sturbridge, MA). It is an interesting living museum and about an hour from Hartford, then get on the Pike to 95 or 495 to Maine.
Mystic is interesting, cute town, aquarium, mystic seaport. It is also close to Essex, CT where there is a steam train and riverboat, and you can wonder around the Gillette Castle State Park. Little over an hour from Hartford off 95.
You could head towards Boston, 2 hours from Hartford, lots to do there.
