philly traffic

Just how bad is traffic around philadelphia? Considering moving to Cherry Hill or other NJ burb and working in Philly and wondering what the commute would be like. Is it bad getting across the river?

How bad is "bad"? This is a tough one to answer -- depends on what you're used to. Average commute time from Cherry Hill to Philly: one hour.

Don't forget commuter trains. If you're talking center city Philadelphia, it's much more practical to use public transportation, which is possible from some of the Jersey areas. Of course, I'd suggest living in Philadelphia in the first place: )

If you are close to the High-speed Line (NJ commuter train) you can make it in less than an hour. I used to go from Lindenwold (end of the line) to 15th & Locust (the other end). Probably about a 35 minute ride. Now I drive from Washington Twp., Gloucester County into Old City. Without traffic I can make it in 30 minutes. With heavy traffic it probably takes an hour.

Rush hour traffic on I-95 can get pretty bad. Also, accidents on I-95 happen quite frequently, which also causes heavy traffic. I don't have much to compare I-95 traffic to, though, and it can be unpredictable, also.

Thanks for the replies...that high speed train line looks great. If we decide to relocate we'll definitely consider looking along there.
