Overnight trip for relaxing California Beach

My boyfriend's band just finished his band's demo. I want to take him somewhere overnight (we live in LA) on Saturday, stay the night and come back Sunday evening. We like romantic, but we also like activities. I want to go somewhere relatively not more than 100 miles from LA with a nice hotel, beach, and not spend more than $200 on the room. Who can help? Any suggestions? Laguna? Newport? Anyone ever done the Ventura beach?

It's hard to get just one Saturday at the beach in summer, especially under $200. You might check Laguna Riviera in LB, or the Marina Beach Motel up in Santa Barbara. Basically you're looking for a place that's had a cancellation for this Saturday night. You might want to check last-minute on Saturday morning for something that's opened up.

The Hyatt Regency and the Fairmont and the Marriot in Newport Beach all show available, but they are not near the water.

We just returned from a 2 night stay in Laguna Beach @ the Laguna Reef Inn, it is right across the street from the Montage and the beautiful beach there. They were one of the only properties that would allow a 2 night stay on the 4th of July weekend. Loved this place, it had a nice tropical feel to it and they do no charge for parking here, the complimentary breakfast was nice also that I enjoyed out by the pool area one morning of our stay. ***kim***

San Diego. Or anywhere along the coast down to San Diego - lots of small towns with beaches.

San Diego has a lot of beaches too.

I believe their overnight trip was for June 28th. But, San Diego does sound nice.
