Real outlets are at the factories, and most of those have gone overseas.

Ellenton will be the nearest to St. Pete. Whether it's real enough I have no idea, sorry!

I believe there is a quite large outlet center just east of the bridge to Sanibel.

St. Pete to Ft. Myers is a couple hours drive; for me, that wouldn't be what I would consider "in the area" or worth driving all that way.

There are so-called "outlet malls" all over Florida. I think I understand your question about them being "real" - and no, they are basically not, IMO. But if you are interested, the Premium Outlets in Ellenton is the closest I can think of, about 30 minutes or so drive (not considering traffic).
