Yes, purchase the latest Zagat Survey of NYC - the best source of information on restaurants. Avaliable at any good book store. Views often are mentioned. By the way, do not overlook the fixed price meals - a real bargain. And there normally is a section on the best places offering brunch. Do your research by trying some homepages - but I bet you already do that. If you want a view, why not try the restaurant at the very top of the World Trade Center - used to be called Windows on the World. Gets good marks on food, and top marks on wines. But do look through Zagats thoroughly - this is the best source of highly reliable information. We use it for every city we visit - never been disappointed. Have fun.

Well, there are views, and then there are views. Unfortunately, most of the skyline type views can only be obtained by going to the edges of the island, or to a hotel restaurant on a high floor. the only one in that area is the marriot marques. But, please don't do this. You will pay an unbelievable price for a view of rooftops! My suggestions (as a native new yorker for 38 years), have a drink at one of those view bars, and go get a great brunch elsewhere--Tavern on the Green & the Boathouse (central park views) Or the SeaGrill at Rockefeller Center (view of skaters while you dine). Sadly, most of these places and the ones at the hotels are tourist oriented, prices high, food not so good. Where do new yorkers eat? Kiev on the lower east side for perogie and blintzes. Sarabeths for homecooking (east and west side). Popovers for great popovers on the upper west side. EJ's luncheonette or Googies diner for everything but the kitchen sink. By the way, the best view of NYC is from New Jersey. Need more info? Drop me a line.

Of course, there are at least TWO types of view. My favourite in NYC is the upward kind. Go to the River Cafe, Brooklyn. It's an excellent restaurant and cocktail bar on a barge moored under Brooklyn Bridge. The view up to the bridge is amazingly impressive. If you don't want to eat there, go for evening cocktails when they have a pianist playing.
