NY-Ice Cream

Now that the weather is getting warmer, here are some of my favorite ice cream places.

Davey's-First Ave. Young guy who has found the perfect balance between sweetness and strong flavor. Limited selection

Sundaes and Cones -East 10th. Nice selection, creamy

Il Laboratorio de Gelato-It is often a zoo as it across the street from Katz's, but they make wonderful gelati. I am partial to the hazelnut.

Grom-Italian chain, very expensive

Mikey's Ave A. Good sandwiches

We like Il Laboratorio too - lots of fun flavors. We also enjoyed trying the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory.

Not technically ice cream, but Serendipity 3 is fun for frozen hot chocolate.

I thought Morgenstern's, off Bowery on Rivington, was really good, and I loved Van Leeuwen in Brooklyn so I am sure the one in EV will be superb. That said, I am not an expert, since I try to hold myself back (!) and most ice cream and gelato tastes pretty great to me. Oddly enough, I have not been wowed by the flavors I've tried at Laboratorio del Gelato. Loved the Italians, Amorino and Grom, though.

Morgenstern's is very good, but the lines there are ridiculous and for me take it out of the running. In terms of flavors, I find Davey's to be my favorite, with Morganstern's a close second. Grom is always my gelato choice since it's right by my office. I have to make a special trip downtown to get the rest of the good stuff.

I'm not usually a gelato fan, but loved Grom (in the Village).

Ample Hills -- in Gawanus -- they have a cart by the Brooklyn Bridge too!

Ice & Vice-221 East Broadway. I am an ice cream/gelato freak and love this place. Unusual flavor and delicious. http://iceandvice.com

We love ice cream/ gelato and have really enjoyed Grom. I am looking forward to trying others when we are in the city. Ice and Vice sounds really interesting as does il laboratorio. I notice Brooklyn ice cream factory didn't appear on anyone's list, but Van Leeuwen's did. Where in Brooklyn is that?
