We are looking to visit the New England area the last week of June 2016. We are looking for a campground somewhere between the Boston area and York ME. We are tent camping with no need for electric or water. We are 2 adults and 3 kids (10, 14, 15). Would like to be close the ocean but not a deal breaker if not. I have looked at so many different places that I think sound good then I read reviews and change my mind. So I thought I would see if anyone on here could recommend a place.

Would you consider further north in Maine? The southern Maine coast is very popular and we preferred not to stay at large camping resorts.
A bit expensive for camping but Searsport Shores in Searsport has a special ocean front section only for tenters. They provide a cart to wheel things in. Also have regular tent sites.
Wiscasset has a wonderful small campground on a former farm next to a tidal river. Mix of sites. One section had a nice view of the marsh and fields. Seemed to be popular with locals who liked the sites around the oval so they could use the center as a common gathering place. Chewonki Campground.

Memories of family camping years ago at Old Orchard Beach in Maine. Don't see it mentioned on PaulRabe list...agree Woodalls a good source. Ditto we had three youngsters about the same age as yours. We had just "graduated" ('71) from tent to trailer. In general camping spots in New England aren't as plentiful or specious as elsewhere. Might seem crowded for those in large RVs. We remember Old Orchard campground because the French Canadians at the next campsite provided music...OK early on but not so later.

Strangely, the internet site for Old Orchard Beach states very clearly that they have tent sites. And it may be exactly the facility that the OP is looking for.

If you folks would consider traveling further north, Hermit Island Campground in Phippsburg, Maine is about 30 minutes north of Portland. Great place for kids to be safely in depend of adults with group activities for kids. It's a small island connected by a causeway. Great private sites with ocean and inlet sites/views. Hikes, views, no RV's. Private, small and quickly booked.
