Need ideas for a birthday trip within 2 hours of Philadelphia

I am looking for a weekend getaway or even just a day trip within 2 hours of Philadelphia for my boyfriends birthday. I am hoping someone can help me with ideas. I am looking for an area with good food.

What kind of sightseeing did you have in mind? Seashore, mountains, big city, small town, gambling?

If good food is indeed your primary goal on such a trip, am thinking New York City would be an especially good choice.

Thank you for the reply! We are not really into gambling. We would like pretty scenery, but we love the city. I don't think he would enjoy the mountains. New York was my first Idea but we were just there in Nov and I was thinking of something different. The shore isn't what I had in mind. Any ideas while in the city.

What time of the year are you planning on going to wherever you end up?

Since you're city people, I'd suggest Washington D.C. unless it's the middle of summer. Lots of good restaurants! Or if you also like college towns, Princeton NJ is kind of fun.

Hi blondesunshine12345

Baltimore and Annapolis, MD are also roughly 2 hours away and I think would make for an interesting day/weekend trip.

Baltimore has its markets (Cross Street, Lexington) and earthy seafood places. Grab a water taxi to Fell's Point from the Inner Harbour... explore the historied streets of Fell's Point and Mount Vernon neighborhood.

Annapolis has a pleasant harbour area and lends itself well to walking and exploring beautiful streets, admiring homes with early 13 colonies'-style charm.

Enjoy! Daniel
