More Strip Hotel Help Needed

Okay,
It seems we're going over superbowl so rooms are exceeding $300/night. I have to reconsider so I'm looking at Monte Carlo, Ballys, Harrahs and New York New York. I'd like to know why some of you didn't like the above. Are they just crappy inside or are they okay? Again, cleanliness being important to me. Can we walk to Treasure Island? Can I find a Starbucks somewhere for morning coffee if I don't want to buy the room service coffee? These are my specific concerns as I can get these hotels for under 300. Your thoughts are really appreciated.

I've stayed at Monte Carlo, Ballys and New York, New York. I didn't have any problems with any of them.

I always thought of Monte Carlo as really nice.

You can walk from Treasure Island from anywhere depending on how far you want to walk (G). Isn't it next door to Monte Carlo?

I didn't pay attention to Starbucks as we don't drink coffee - but when we stayed at Monte Carlo last, there was a small food court downstairs which was handy.

We try to stay different places every time so that we can keep our trips straight. However we've stayed at Monte Carlo a couple of times and wouldn't mind going back.

All are pretty similar. Super Bowl weekend is very fun and I doubt you'll spend a lot time in your room. So, I would suggest you go for the cheapest of the group. FYI- much like every other city, Starbucks or coffee stands are everywhere. Did you try Priceline?

The Monte Carlo is very nice and one of our favorite places to stay. New York New York is fine also and has a Starbucks. Never stayed at Harrahs or Ballys but based on many trips to Vegas, we'd choose MC or NYNY over those with MC being our first choice of those you named. Normally can't beat it for the price. If you don't want to walk to Treasure Island (it'd be a hike) the Deuce bus stops right at the MC and is $5 for 24 hours.

Of the opnes listed I would stay @ the Monte Carlo. I'm no longer keen on NYNY since they added the ESPNZone + the layout in there is terrible. Can't speak to the others.

Yes, Monte Carlo and NYNY are a cut above Harrah's or Bally's. BTW, TI is next to the Mirage, not Monte Carlo.

I've stayed a the Monte Carlo and Ballys. Either would be a good choice, but I prefer Ballys for its location and for its rooms.

The standard rooms at Ballys are large and comfortable and they have big windows for city views.

If something about a room at Bally's isn't up to stuff, they make it right promptly.

Coffee and pastries are available in the lobby.

The last time we stayed in Las Vegas when rates were out of sight on weekdays, we stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club at the Flamingo. We were pleased. We had a big room, nice bath, and a little kitchen. It was VERY clean. (If you book there, use the Flamingo valet, not the understaffed valet service at the "club.")

Okay, thanks a lot everyone. We have a show at TI but we'll cab it. I saw the Hiltons were sold out. I'm wondering if they'll release rooms later but they won't tell me? I did check priceline but since I have 4 people it makes it difficult. Wouldn't work to be stuck with one King bed even though we ARE sisters! This is great. I'll check the sites for NY and MC. Appreciate it very much!

Between business and pleasure, i've stayed at most of the strip resorts. We stayed at Harrahs one night last summer and was pleasantly surprised - shocked was more like it. Chose it for irrelevant reasons but you can't beat the location. It took literally 5 minutes to go from our room out to the strip - which is notable in vegas! But then we were only on the 7th floor - a brand new renovated room with two flat screen tvs. It had a mini balcony overlooking the a small, insignifant pool but in terms of price and location, it was fine and we;d stay there again.

Whats flamingo going for then? It too is great in terms of location.

I stayed at Bally's last time I was in town. I had an old South tower room with worn furnishings straight out of the 1980's...and a Bellagio fountains and Strip view to die for! I'd definitely stay there again.

Monte Carlo is really nice. I stayed there a few years ago. My only complaint was that it was a long walk from the elevators to the Strip.

Definitely cab it to your show.

There is a Starbucks between Harrah's and Casino Royale for certain, and you might want to look on the web to see where there are others. I know Bally's doesn't have one.

For 4 in a room, you should check the rates at Aladdin/Planet Hollywood. The bathrooms are huge, with 2 sinks, shower separate from tub, and a door closing off the toilet so that theoretically, all 4 of you could be taking care of business at once.
There is a Starbucks just an elevator ride away, downstairs, as well as a full-on shopping mall on the premises. And your room might have a view of the Bellagio fountains across the street.

My mother and I stayed at the Monte Carlo this past June and although the hotel and the room we stayed in was very nice, there is a massive construction project surrounding three sides of the hotel - it was incredibly dusty and noisy, even on the 23rd floor! I suspect the construction isn't done yet. It affected the access to the self-parking area (Valet was fine, though) and the access to the strip from inside the hotel. Keep that in mind if you're looking at staying at the MC.

Does it have to be a Strip hotel? We are in Vegas, for only one night, next June and I wanted to book a Strip hotel - but got weary of reading reviews about hefty deposits, long lines to check in, miles of walking to get to rooms, no room at the pools and even some chat about 'ladies of the night' being accepted in some. Maybe I take too much notice of the reviews - and, certainly I don't have any actual experience of the Strip hotels (we stayed off strip last time we visited).

Finally, I've opted for the Best Western Convention Center hotel, just behind the Wynn. No casino - easy parking and a nice big room with huge balcony for a reasonable price. I just looked up the super bowl and is it 2nd March 2008? If so, there are rooms in the Embassy Suites for less than $200 ...

LOL - thank - I got that date from the (supposed) SuperBowl official website - maybe it was last year (I'm in the UK; forgive me!

In that case, the price of a room is about $250 at the Embassy Suites.

Harrahs carnival tower (ask and verify with the hotel on the phone) has a starbucks on the 2nd floor that is not easily accessible to anyone but hotel guests. You can actually go down to grab starbucks coffee and some oranges in your bathrobe and slacks. It is also catty-corner (sort of) from Treasure Island, an easy 10 minute walk (no tram needed). For what you asked for, seems like the perfect match. Have a terrific time whatever you decide!

wildblueyonder: 2/3/08 is February 3 in the USA, not March 2.

Well, I booked the MC everyone. I can cancel though and might change hotels if rates go down. I didn't know about the construction--ah bummer. I really rely on this board for input. Thanks so much!
