Moab - Biking
Heading to Moab in July for some mountain biking. I am wondering where most of the trails are found? Outside of town? ie Porcupine Rim, Slick Rock, Klondike Bluffs.....so driving to a trail head? And then getting on a trail? Depending on which trail we do that day? Or can we access some of them by riding from town? Have not looked at detailed maps yet, but thought I would get some opinions and thoughts first from those who have been there.

HI Cate,
You will need to drive to most of these trails. There are many bike suttle companies in Moab that will take you one or both ways.
I hope you are aware that these trails are highly technical and are for advanced mountain bikers? And, you know how hot it will be in July? 100 degress PLUS.
Just go prepared.....

yes, aware of the technical aspects...and fortunately, coming from Vancouver BC, with our mountains, technical here is a bit more advanced than the MOAB technical. also, planning on bringing TONS of water, and riding earlier in the morning. some friends were just there and said it was great riding and very do-able.

Cate,
If you can ride the roots, rocks and mud of North Van you're well prepared for the slickrock. It is totally different---so much traction on the rock---but the turns and drops will challenge anyone.
You could ride to the start of the Slickrock Trail from town if you like; it would add 2-3 miles of uphill riding to the Slickrock loop, but might be a good warmup. Other trails are further from town.
Local bike shops are a good source of information on the various trails. Have fun.
