Memorial day trip suggestions (family of 4)
Hi,
My parents (mid 50s) and Sister (mid 20s) will be visiting me from India beginning May 20, 2008. They have made several trips to USA, but mostly to the tourist places, NYC, Orlando, LA.
I am currently livng in Boston, and was wondering if we could plan a trip over Memorial Day (May 22-May 26)?
We were considering Miami, but I think it seems quite busy that weekend.
Are there any places near Boston? How about elsewhere in Florida? e.g. Key West?
They would like to go to some place to relax a bit, shop, eat. They dont really need a big city, since they will visit Boston and NYC later.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks,
wonderfultravels

wonderfultravels, that's quite a range of choices you're considering--near Boston vs Miami
Are you working with a specific budget? What kind of accomodations are you looking for? Motels, fancier hotels, B&Bs?
Warmer beach areas will be much more expensive and also more likely to be booked this close to Memorial Day. Also, if you fly anywhere, you will of course lose a lot of time, but if you want to go someplace guaranteed warm you would have to fly.
If you don't mind cool weather, you might show them Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont. Lovely small towns in all three states, and not as busy as coastal areas and further south.

Getting something in Key West this month would be a problem, especially if you wanted a hotel on the north side where you can walk to all of the places to eat and listen to music and not need a car. And airfare to Florida and then on to Key West has gotten worse than I've seen it for years - over $500.00 round trip per person.

I agree - stay in New England. I live in Portsouth (an hour North of Boston). You could check out this area and maybe North Conway. It's definitely a different taste of the US than Boston and NYC. Or, go South to Newport, which would also be fun this time of year.
