Maui in August - Kapalua Bay or Renaissance Wailea

Help! My boyfriend and I are headed to Maui in August, and in spite of asking an infinite number of people where we should stay, we're still trying to decide between the Renaissance Wailea ($215 a night) and the Kapalua Bay Hotel ($180 a night).

We're looking for something quiet, romantic, beautiful and relaxing - we won't be as concerned with proximity to activities, etc.

I've heard conflicting reports about weather in August in Wailea versus Kapalua. This could be the tie-breaker. Anyone want to cast a vote for one or the other?

Thanks!

In August, I'd say definitely Kapalua Bay IF the heat and humidity bother you a lot. Otherwise, the Renaissance Wailea is my favorite place on Maui! Have a wonderful time - either place will be fabulous for you, I think!

The Kapalua Bay!!!!!! The Kapalua beach was voted #1 3 years in a row by the travel channel, it is beautiful. If you stay here make sure to have dinner at the Plantation House right up the street.

I have seen construction in Kapalua and heard about it at the Renassaince. I would suggest that you contact the hotels and ask about it since quiet is on your list. As far as the weather, Wailea should be hot and dry and Kapalua should be warm, rainy and windy. Both of your hotel choices are excellent for what you are looking for. As much as I love the Renaissance, for some reason I think you might like Kapalua Bay Hotel better. As long as you don't care about wind and occasional rain. Just a hunch.

Yes, there is construction going on at the north end of the Renaissance. It's pretty noisy, so I'd chose the other property.

We had reservations for an oceanfront villa at Kapalua Bay in July. They contacted us to warn us of ongoing construction on the property, I think at the hotel, and the ancillary noise and moving around of construction equipment. We appreciated the heads-up and changed our reservations to the Wailea Ekahi. Look into it.
