I've rented cars there several times and unfortunately my cars have been vandalized several times. Don't leave anything of value in the car, not even the trunk. They won't just break into the car; they'll do some body damage as well.
So many favorite places to eat, as well as things to see, have probably been repeated 10 times in the last month on this board. Do a search and you'll come up with pages and pages of info. Have fun and watch out for the whales!

Definetely rent a car. We have been twice had no problems with vandels. They do advise you NOT to leave any valuables in your car. Especially overnight. They even suggest to leave the doors unlocked so the vandels won't do any damage to the car.
Be sure to go to the Old Lahaina Luau. The best Luau on Maui. Order your tickets early, this show tends to sell out fast.
Have fun (I'm jealous) It's defintely PARADISE!!!

I rented from Alamo, biggest facility I've ever seen & crowded, best to go to get car then go back to pick up luggage.
In Lahaina go see Ulalena (see www.mauitheatre.com ), excellent production. Best feed we had was Erik's Seafood Grotto in Kahana, especially early-bird specials.
You'll have a wonderful time !
