Los Angeles with a teen boy

I have a long weekend with my teenage son after his HS graduation. We arrive Friday, leave Tuesday late afternoon. Here's my question: where would you take him?

- We have 2 days blocked off to visit people
- He will spend one day with a female friend age 19 who lives there
- We are taking surfing lessons
- NO museums, shows or artistic things per his request

I need to fill up another day. HELP!

Show him the following website and see if this would be to his liking.

Or, how about Disneyland?

Or a water park?

Drive up Malibu and find where the surf is up.

Or go down to the OC and look for same.

"No museums, shows or artistic things per his request." Then tell us what he's interested in.

Which weekend? Where are you staying and where are the surfing lessons?

FYI, don't drive to Malibu or Orange County to surf until you check the surf reports. Conditions vary depending on which direction the beach faces, and some places are better first thing in the morning, others in late afternoon. Here's a website where you can check conditions (and forecasts) at several places in both L.A. and Orange Counties for up to the next 7 days.

I have some trip reports on my time in LA. I was 23 at the time and took my Mum here for her 50th birthday.

The top of our list was the VIP experience at Universal Studios, a baseball game at Dodgers stadium and riding our bikes along Santa Monica..

So many things you could do! Enjoy..

Any of the theme parks (Disney, Six Flaggs, Knotts Berry, Universal), a baseball game, the beach, Hollywood -- all would work.

Geesh. Was only talking about the beautiful drives up/beyond Mailbu and down to OC to see the incredible views and also to see real surfers. Real surfers (nor beginners taking lesons) are out pretty much every day - unless it is totally flat.

Maybe he means no ART museums? How about the Grammy museum, the Peterson Classic Car Museum, the Science Center and The Museum of Natural History, The Griffith Observatory? Or you could book a tour of JPL/ Nasa just north of Pasadena.

He likes sports, food and girls. Not in that order necessarily . We'll be there in June. I think he wont want the theme parks since we recently did a week at Universal in Orlando for Harry Potter. He tends to want to do things he can do nowhere else in the world and is pretty adventurous. He is a foodie for sure.

I like the idea about the other museums esp classic car. Also the Dodgers game sounds cool.

THANKS for these suggestions so far. This board is awesome.

Oops, I spelled the name of the auto museum incorrectly in case you're googling it.

Rent bikes (or longboards, skates) and ride along the beach on the Strand. It has lots of girls, sports (beach volleyball, surfing, boogie boarding, stand-up paddleboarding, etc.) and plenty of great food.

Take him to a TV show taping:

I agree with lvk's suggestion of renting bikes to cycle along the beach.
