Looking for a unique tour or something special to do for a Mother's Day gift in either Boston or New York City.

I want to do something fun with my Mother and it doesn't have to be on Mother's day. Last year we went on a North End Market Tour in Boston and we had ball. Is there anything else like that in and around Boston or NYC that might be fun?

Any thoughts?

We really enjoyed the food walks in NYC, both Greenwich Village and Chelsea Market (where we saw some Food Network Stars...).

Not sure what a North End Market tour is, but there are dozens of good walking tours in NYC. In addition to the one mentioned by djkbooks, there are also several of the lower east side (1 is free).

Maybe another idea is to get tickets to the taping of a TV show? Regis, the View, Martha Stewart etc.

A theater matinee?

In NYC, the botanic gardens in both the Bronx and Bklyn (I prefer Bklyn, really easy to get to via subway from Manhattan), are in full, lovely bloom. Wonderful day trip. And the Bklyn Botanic Gardens is right next to the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park and several neighborhoods known for their really lovel restaurants. You could definitely make it worth your time for the day.

I vote for the chocolate brunch at the Langham Hotel (formerly Meridien) in Boston. Saturdays only.

mclaurie,

The Boston North End Market Tour is excellent and I highly recommend it. It's basically as it says, you tour the North End as if you were a local. Everything from Patisseries, to shops that sell wonderful olive oils and proscuitto. I think it was between 3 to 4 hours and it's a great tour to take even if you live here!! Here's the link in case someone is interested.
