Leave Car at Logan?

Hello All. I am planning to fly out of Boston Logan for a long weekend. Has anyone left their car there for 4 days? Was the car like you remembered it when you returned? Do you suggest taking a train to the airport instead? How far is the Amtrak station from Logan? Does the T get one to both? Thanks.

Parking is very expensive at Logan, but my husband leaves his car there frequently from 2-7 days with no problems. Try Logan Express buses from several locations - you park car in their lots and take a bus into Logan. Forget Amtrak, but MBTA is possibility. It all depends on where you are coming from. Massport.com gives all sorts of info.

South Station is a reasonable cab ride from the airport, about 4 miles, taking 10 minutes on up, depending on the traffic. There's probably even a shuttle service.

I usually advocate taking the T whenever possible, but in this case it would involve at least two transfers. If you get off the Amtrak train at Back Bay Station, you can take the Orange Line from there to State Street, then transfer to the Blue Line, get off at the Airport station, and then take the shuttle bus from that station that goes around the terminals.

If you get off Amtrak at the last stop, South Station, you're a lot closer to the airport "as the crow flies," but since South Station is on the Red Line and it doesn't intersect with the Blue Line, you'd have an extra subway transfer and a substantially longer total trip.

Parking at Logan is expensive and crowded, in addition to the hazards you so humorously pointed out. I'd take the train.

gs has a good point about the Logan Expres. That's what I take. Which town are you coming from?

I always park at Paul's Parking, an offsite lot a mile or so from Logan. It's 9 or 10 dollars a day and includes shuttle to and from the terminal. They have 2 locations in East Boston. I've never had a problem with them.

Dave - I have had a great experience leaving my car at "Thrifty". It is just about a mile north of Logan. (781-289-0002) I had fantastic service. Their van drops off at the airport on a very regular schedule and to get picked up there is a free phone right at baggage claim and they are on their way. When we got back our car was all ready for us, paper work completed. I think there are also discounts through AAA and Shaws supermarket. Prices are definitely cheaper than parking at airport and it was easy.

Thanks to all who responded. I am actually driving up from Conn. I am going to Iceland for 4 days and they will not be flying out of JFK until mid-March (only Logan). I think I will price out gas, told + parking vs. Amtrak plus T. Timewise both are about the same. Dave

You might want to also consider a third alternative: driving plus Logan Express from the suburbs. This will be cheaper and more flexible than the Amtrak version, and almost certainly cheaper and less hassle than driving all the way into the city/airport and then parking.

Haev a great time in Iceland!

For extended stays at Logan, I always use the satelite parking lots, which are actually part of the Logan parking lot system, but are much cheaper than the close by lots. The satelite lots are a quick 10 minute ride to the terminal on the free shuttles, and run about $50 a week.
