Lake Tahoe at XMAS: Harrahs or Embassy Suites?

I'm going to Lake Tahoe over Christmas and I need lodging recommendations. My son and I plan to ski all 4 days, but my 70 year old uncle doesn't ski and would appreciate a place very close to most of the entertainment/shopping/etc. Currently, we've narrowed it down to Harrahs and Embassy Suites. Which would you recommend? Any other recommendations besides these 2 hotels?

I would choose the Harrahs. There's more to do there for your uncle. There is of course gambling, but he could walk to the other hotels, restaurants, and stores that are right outside Harrahs.

Embassy is a terrific place. Beautiful inside and out. All rooms are suites. Not smokey anywhere because it's in CA and you can't smoke indoors. (except for your smoking room). Breakfast is included (buffet and made to order)as are cocktails and snacks at happy hour.
Embassy is a little closer to the new gondola for Heavenly. Was in Harrahs about 2 weeks ago and nearly choked on the smoke. Ugh!

Embassy is next door to Harrahs which is just a walk out the front door of the Embassy Suites into Harrahs so it couldn't be closer for your father.

Newer is the Marriott Grand Residence which is a tiemshare property but tha tdoes rent out the rooms/suites. This property is just on the other side of the gondola so it would be a little more of a walk (but not much) than at the Embassy. At Christams you'll p[rbably have to contend with snow so a place closer to the casinos, like the Embassy, might do the trick.

I have never had a problem with the Harrahs being smokey, and I am not a smoker either. The hotel casinos have an excellen filtration system to the point that the smoke is not even noticeable.

My vote is for Harrahs beacuse of its more central location. The buffet on the 18th floor is very good and the view from up there are spectacular.

Perhaps Harrahs had their "excellent filtration" system off on the Thursday night I was there. Maybe saving it for the big spenders who come on the weekeds?

We thought we'd have to throw away our clothes. All 4 of us.

I would also recommend Harrahs..
While there for the festive season you might check out these shows...

Caesars put on a production of the Nutcracker ballet (I believe it is the San FRancisco ballet company) It is a real good show
Also ..if they still do it...Ebenezer Scrooge is also good at Harrahs.
I have been to both several times and would go again.
