LA Airport - stop over

7 hours is too long to sit around an airport and not long enough to go anyplace far! Assuming your flight comes in late (most are) and you need to be back at the airport some where between 1 and 2 hours prior to flight time I'd not venture too far because traffic can be really rough. You can get a cab to Manhatten Beach, about 7 miles south of LAX. Very nice area, pier, beach, shops, places to eat, etc. You can also go a few miles north of LAX to Marina del Rey. I would not go further than either of these two areas because of traffic. As an alternative - with that much time - I would get a day room in a hotel and rest up and shower, etc. Lots of hotels at LAX. If you have another long flight ahead of you freshening up, having a nice meal and catching a nap sounds like a good idea to me!

There's a really fun sky lounge right across from the airport -- you can walk there -- can't remember name -- it's at top of a building -- great view -- LA of 60s interior-- great people watching -- not good for all of seven hours but fun for an hour or so --

Louise, I second Lori's idea, especially if you're coming off of, or getting on, a long-haul flight (or both) - A meal or drink followed by a walk at the surf line at Manhattan Beach is a great relaxer and real change of pace from airport congestion hell. The savings you'll have on dinner compared with LAX restaurants will probably pay for the taxi.

By all means get out of that airport--yeeech. If you're just tired, hop one of the circling airport hotel buses and crash for a few hours. We've used the Sheraton for just that purpose between flights--it's clean, comfortable, well-appointed. The above recs. are great if you're up to it.
