Kihei

Does anyone know anything about the Hale Pau Hana condos in Kihei? What would be your other recommendations in the Kihei/Wailea area for a condo? Thanks.

In July we stayed at the Kihei Surfside condos, just a few doors up the beach from the Hale Pau Hana. Here's a link to the Fodor's trip report I wrote about it: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...1&tid=34436140

Scroll all the way through, I think there's some additional info about it toward the bottom, besides what's in the actual report. It's a great condo, I highly recommend it.

Here's a second vote for Kihei Surfside. Just got back on the 16th. Great view, nice pool and the grounds are beautiful. Very well kept. Sipping a glass of Maui pineapple wine and watching the sun set among the lit tikki torches was heaven. It is very windy, especially in the afternoon and I did find that a little a/c would have been nice, but it would not deter me from staying there again. There are two restaurants within walking distance along the beach. Wailea (restaurants & shopping) is just a short drive away. If you are diving, the boat ramp for the dive boats is a stone's throw away. (Saw lots of turtles swiming around there). The only down side is that there are no w/d in the units, but I only did one load in the community machines so it wasn't too bad. Our unit was nice in that it was one bedroom, but had two bathrooms. Another nice touch was that down by the washers and dryers they have a big bookcase where you can take a book, leave a book, which is great if you are looking for something to read. Found this website that has some pretty decent photos.

Another plus is that Surfside is very quiet at night (except every single morning you can look forward to waking up to the squawking of the many birds there) The Hale Pau Hana condos are right on one of the very busy beaches and we saw people there late into the night so don't know if that would be a problem for you.

But I'm sure you'll enjoy wherever you stay!

Hi golf261

I stayed at the Hale Pau Hana about 5 years ago. We had a great time. It is not fancy but enjoyed the view, beach, and grounds. If I went back to Maui I would consider staying there again. The condo had A/C. You could snorkle right in front of the condos. I even saw a turtle out there.

If money was no consideration I would look at the polo beach club.

Have Fun

We own one of the units at Hale Pau Hana.
I agree with GP, it is not fancy, but it is beautiful. It is one of a very few condos directly on the ocean in Kihei.
We bought there because snorkeling is my favorite outdoor activity.
We also enjoy spending cocktail hour on the lanai and then walking to one of the eight or so restaurants across the street.
