Traffic north on Hwy. 1 in Maine Sat. 9/20 midday

What will traffic be like going north on Hwy. 1 in Maine Sat 9/20 and going south Thurs - Fri. 9/25- 9/26.? We are planning to go either South or North from Brunswick to Bar Harbor via Rockland an Belfast.

Maybe a local would be best to answer this but I don't think it will be too bad going north on Saturday from Brunswick. The only time we have had a problem with Rt 1 traffic was Friday late afternoon and early evening of a holiday weekend (camping in Wiscasset and traffic backs up because of the bridge and pedestrians). There will be Sat morning backup in Camden but there's an alternate route thru town if you can find it.

Southbound on Thurs and Fri I don't think there should be much of a problem as long as you try to avoid commuting hours in places like Camden and Wiscasset and Bath. We've gone to Bath Heritage Day parade and festivities (July 4th weekend) and not had a problem. I think the traffic problem with Camden and Wiscasset is that traffic has to stop for pedestrians and there are a lot of them in those areas. Rt 1 goes right thru the popular downtown shopping/ tourist areas.

Did it last year at that time....no problems at all. Definitely do it in the southbound direction since you have 2 days, stay overnight somewhere.

The Common Ground (Organic) Fair is Sept 20 so you'd have to avoid anything near that area or heading into it. You can look up the directions online and avoid anything within 20 miles.

We went to the Common Ground Fair last year and stayed on Rt 1 in Lincolnville. The fair is inland in Unity and traffic on the few roads in that area was very slow and heavy but Rt 1 was fine north of Camden. Went to the fair on Friday and then north to Ellsworth and Belfast on Saturday (had to go to Chicken Coop Antiques and Used Books).
