JohnD, iamq, Kal

Thank you guys for always being so funny and so helpful and trying to keep things light-hearted. I've gotten tons of information from your posts and had many a chuckle over your comments. Some of us gals need to take a page from your book.

Bill, I am planning a trip to north Kauai in 2007 (I know...I know) and have about five cottages bookmarked. When the time grows closer, I want to compare notes with you as I know you are in the know about this...

iceeu2 Nov 15th, 2005 02:34 AM

crazy...be careful of the path he leads you!! We are going back in 2007..probably November..when are you going?

crazy4Hawaii Nov 15th, 2005 04:59 AM

iceeu2 - I'm looking at March or June of 2007. Do you have any idea where you'll be staying yet? I'll run my research by you too.

iamq Nov 15th, 2005 05:29 AM

crazy,

Cottages? Kauai? Rentals on Kaua'i has become a hobby (sick?) of sorts. I'd be happy to share whatever info I have with you. Let me know. I have my helpful moments, ya know. ((R))

We're going in July /August 2007 probably. Maybe a north shore/south shore trip this time. Maybe a BI/Kauai combo, not sure yet.

aloha,

-Bill

beachgirl86 Nov 15th, 2005 06:47 AM

I love it that I am not the only one planning our 2007 Hawaii trip!! And we haven't even taken our 2006 one yet to Maui and BI ((r))

2007 will be the trip we finally try Kauai (I think) so I'll be looking for rentals or hotels, too!

Kal Nov 15th, 2005 07:10 AM

b'86,

:-? 2007....2007......You may want to check because I thought they were closing for maintenance sometime in 2007.
You think those gorgeous Emerald Mountains are real? Coutresy of Mohawk and Dutch Boy! ;)
I'll check it out for you in 43 more days.
I've been planning our 09-'06 return to Europe since June so....try planning for about 12-14 people! 8-}

c4,
We keep wishing we had the nerve to stay at the Waimea Plantation Cottages over on the Westside.
One of thses dayyyyyys.

beachgirl86 Nov 15th, 2005 07:29 AM

Kal: Closing for maintenance, huh? Well, we'll be traveling in August, so hopefully it will be done by then. Take a look for us and report back, ok? :) If you travel each Jan., you should be there twice more before it's our turn!

Kal Nov 15th, 2005 07:31 AM

409 until 2006 but who's counting? :-X

RichinPA Nov 15th, 2005 11:04 AM

Bill (iamq), Georgia and I will be heading back in 2007 also in July / August I think.....oh wait, now that she is retired from school district, she may want to go another time.

But, if we go when you are there, we will have to do anohter GTG at Happy Talk...........Auntiemarie, you get ready!!

CaliNurse Nov 15th, 2005 11:12 AM

Hey, I'm waaaayyy behind all of you--only looking as far ahead as a year from now, and don't know where to.
Crazy, what a nice post.
Bill, if cottage rental searches are an obsession for you in Kauai, wait'll you get to St John!
Beachgirl, you gotta try Kauai in 2007!! Keep twisting your husband's...arm?
Kal, I don't get the "nerve" re Waimea Plantation Cottages. Too far from the action? Isn't it conveniently close to Waimea Brew Pub? (Or is that what you're afraid of?)

iceeu2 Nov 15th, 2005 11:58 AM

Billyboy..............hold me back, please!

Hanalei Nov 15th, 2005 01:11 PM

Ladies and gentlemen,
Sorry to rain on your parade, but we are going to Kauai in MAY 2006. LOL.

I still find your posts informative as we still haven't been everywhere yet -- too busy fighting the chickens on the road.

JohnD Nov 15th, 2005 02:09 PM

FainaAgain Nov 15th, 2005 02:55 PM

I have a better idea: Kal, John, Bill - 3 musketeers. And I'll be D'Artagnan! :))

(hey, I held my tongue for too long! fencing, anyone?)

Kal Nov 15th, 2005 02:57 PM

Larry, Moe and Curley...you decide!!!

JohnD Nov 15th, 2005 02:58 PM

Kal Nov 15th, 2005 03:02 PM

Hey!!! I resemble that remark.

crazy4Hawaii Nov 15th, 2005 03:27 PM

Otay den, Bill -
Check out these little beauts for me:

Halei Makai Cottages
Hanalei Moon Beach Cottage
Hanalei House

I'm wanting to be near the beach and near town (a nice mountain view never hurts as I'm a mountain girl at heart). I usually go all over an island trying to see everything. Now after multiple trips to the big four (very little time in Oahu, though), I'm ready to take a trip that's all about the relaxation. May get in the car very little...

iamq Nov 15th, 2005 04:05 PM

Faina,
Ooooo, D'Artagnan was always my favorite. So clever...and cute!

Kal,
Me? Eddie? You strike me as the Eddie of our group. I'm more of a Wally. (Actually, I'm really the most like June, if you must know). John is surely the Beav.

I2,
It is hard isn't? I had a slip this morning with the other poster and I semi-regret it now. So, whoa girl!

Crazy,
I'll get back to you in an hour or so.

aloha,

Bill

iamq Nov 15th, 2005 06:01 PM

crazy,

Let's see...We were actually close to renting Hanalei Moon. It's right on the Bay and is set back from water with a large lawn in front. It shares the lot with four other rentals all owned by the same family, which would have been a bit of turnoff for us. It's located almost all the way at the end of Weke Road and would be a 10 minute walk to town for eats and fun.

We really loved staying in Hanalei. Our place was on the opposite end of the road across from the Bay. We walked to dinner everynight and we were a 15 minute drive to Makua Beach.

Hanalei House is on the middle part of the Bay. I assume that you are interested in renting the cottage. WE looked at it from the beach. It look like it's about 50 feet from the main house and has foilage around it so it looks like there would be some privacy.

iamq Nov 15th, 2005 06:14 PM

sorry, posted it by mistake.

Hale Makai looks interesting! It's in Haena, which is rural residential with everything from cottages to $20 million estates. It looks like it's next to Hanalei Colony Resort. The beaches in this area are pretty, but not great for swimming. It is a 5 minute drive to Tunnels (Makua).

crazy4Hawaii Nov 15th, 2005 06:16 PM

Thanks, Bill! What was the name of the place you rented? Would you stay there again? Did you find out anything about Halei Makai?

I'll bet being able to walk into Hanalei town was great! That sounds ideal to me.

BTW, my other post has disappeared. I guess we got too feisty.

iamq Nov 15th, 2005 06:38 PM

crazy,
It's called Plantation Cottage. Here is the url:

http://www.napaliprop.com/plantation-cott.html

Here is the link to my photo album that has pictures of it:

http://tinyurl.com/7j26v

We would stay there again in a heart beat. It is not fancy, but it is comfortable. It had an outdoor shower and a lovely lanai. It is on a flag lot behind another house on Weke Rd. Rentals are pretty expensive in Hanalei and for the price this was a great value.

-Bill

crazy4Hawaii Nov 15th, 2005 07:16 PM

Bill,

It looks like Plantation Cottage and Hanalei House Cottage are much more private that "Moon". Do you think your location at the end of the bay was better than the mid-bay location of the HHC?

Is there much town to Haena - as compared to Hanalei?

Any other interesting properties you've run across in your research lately? (I promise not to try to rent it out from under you LOL.) Besides, my next trip is to run all over the Big Island trying to see everything! I'll be ready for Kauai!

gyppielou Nov 15th, 2005 07:27 PM

Bill?

iamq Nov 15th, 2005 07:51 PM

I think the location of Hanalei House cottage is better because you are right on the beach. It would ideal in my mind. Our place was behind a house across the street from the beach. It was a two minute walk the beach from the house.

Haena is more of a district than an actual town. There are a few shops scattered through the area, but no "town" so to speak.

Not sure what your budget is but here some great places in a variety of prices:

Napali Properties, Hanalei North Shore Properties, Kauai Vacation Rentals, Bali Hi Real Estate and Anini Aloha are some popular agents for north shore rentals.

Good Luck and have fun on the BI!

We'll be in Kauai the week of Feb 12 then on to Maui for a week.

crazy4Hawaii Jan 20th, 2006 04:48 AM

fraukie -
I'm perpetually planning a trip to Hawaii. It's called ADDICTION! This way I know that eventually I'll get back there. Sometimes there are years between my trips due to time and money constraints. Usually I start planning a trip two years ahead. I start booking it one year ahead.

fraukie Jan 20th, 2006 06:10 AM

Crazy4h., I guess it's at least something to keep you motivated! I know I will want to return again, but after our upcoming trip we know we will not be abl eto go again for a number of years.. :-( ... it's a long way for us and the airfare is not cheap..
