When does the countdown to Fiji start?

-Bill

Kal Jan 26th, 2006 05:47 PM

I thought I was Lumpy? :-?

iamq Jan 26th, 2006 05:51 PM

I don't know about Lumpy, but I know who Grumpy is. :-d

jamaltay Jan 26th, 2006 06:47 PM

KAL! I didn't think you would ever get back. You have been missed here.

119 days to Kauai8-)

iceeu2 Jan 27th, 2006 03:57 AM

And just who the hay is Grumpy? Bless your heart, my billyboy...be careful what you say!!!

Kal Jan 27th, 2006 07:12 AM

"Grumpy'lou"? :-?

jams, Didn wanna come back!
I've been letting work get in my way of late. Only had time for one i'net vice.:-"

335, baby...if we don't sneak over for Taste of Kauai in June...but keep that a secret, yah?!?!

You firm up your hotel yet?
The Islander did a nice job in the remodel and maybe in 118 mo' days the DARN SAND BAR WILL BE REOPENED..and all will be right in the world! ;)

iamq Jan 27th, 2006 03:25 PM

Kal, 442 for me! April 8, 2007. PM is having a BIG (REEEEAlly big) birthday and I'm taking him to the hell-hole as a surprise. North or South? Hmmmm....
-Bill

fraukie Jan 30th, 2006 12:13 AM

11 days for me..... !!! now I just have to hope that our flights work out ok....!!

Kal Jan 30th, 2006 04:48 PM

fraukie,
GOT ROOM?

Billllayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy,
What's it gonna cost you for me to keep it quiet from PM? ((6))

iamq Jan 30th, 2006 06:04 PM

Kal,

How does a lifetime supply of rooster jerky sound? :-D

-Bill

iceeu2 Jan 31st, 2006 04:45 AM

Oh, my billyboy, we may finally meet(but probably NOT)! We are so back there in 2007, but likely will be around the 18th of March!

And..........you know a Pisces can't keep a secret........so I want something a whole helluva lot better than rooster jerky!

maaaaaahaaaaaaa((r))((6)):-X

iamq Jan 31st, 2006 05:15 AM

I'2,

This is an easy one. Go on March 18th and stay for 3 weeks! Or go on the 25th and stay 2 weeks. Then we'll meet. You can make this work honey!:-D

As far as the payola goes...How about a life's supply of Kaua'i red-dirt facial masks to keep you skin that lovely reddish-brown hue all year long? ((6)) ((R)) ((L))

-Bill

Kal Jan 31st, 2006 06:57 AM

Is there still a restraining order where 3 or more K9s can't be within 2 posts of each other on the same thread?

BTW....barely rained at all while we were there this trip which puts a crimp in my rooster kerky processing. Like SF sourdough, the atmosphere is a key ingredient. :(

iceeu2 Jan 31st, 2006 07:52 AM

I wish grumpylou could come out and play.:( I miss her!

Are spirits the same as ghosts?

I think I can be the ghost-w or even bb or Kal the King.,)

iceeu2 Jan 31st, 2006 07:55 AM

Wish we could edit..meant to be ;)

FainaAgain Jan 31st, 2006 08:06 AM

Kal the King?

King Kal of Kalifornia wearing the K-9 Krown :)

As I always say, he is the Royal Something 8-}

iamq Jan 31st, 2006 08:33 AM

Kal,

I thought that particular rule stated 4 or more K9s gathered together was official, humourless banter, not three. :-/

-Bill

iceeu2 Jan 31st, 2006 11:53 AM

BB...there's a few people wanting our leader for his loco moco.....what do you have to offer other than rooster jerky and red dirt?

lvk Jan 31st, 2006 12:34 PM

Do groupies count? :D

Welcome back Kal! Will there be a trip report?

iceeu2 Jan 31st, 2006 12:53 PM

Ivk, you're no groupie...you are a member of the klub!

sea_wahine Jan 31st, 2006 01:08 PM

..or lurking neighbors? alOha, kal and condolences on your recent return.
Strange thing, but we were thinking of moving our autumnal jump a bit, well, closer to now. I've been around in summer a couple times, but never in mar-may months. What kind differences you seasoned k lovers noticing? mahalo, peeps.

iamq Jan 31st, 2006 02:04 PM

I'2,

Tain't this FUN?

My loco moco probably can't compare to Kal's, so let's not go there. I don't even like loco moco. Actually, I ordered loco moco without the moco (eggs) and it reminded me of something my mother used to make. :-&

You did not mention that you've changed your dates of going so we can meet. You did change them didn't you?

Looks like I'm getting the Gillin Beach House for that week in April. They have to confirm the opening, but it looks GOOD. That's PM's favorite spot on the island.

-Bill

iceeu2 Jan 31st, 2006 02:33 PM

iamq, how are you going to surprise PM? Can you really keep a secret? And, how are you going to keep it from him when you go to get your passports? You do need a passport for Hawaii, yeah? And, what about exchanging money? Will you do all of that at the airport?

We will either go mid to late March of 2007 or in November of 2007. I looked today and Easter is the first weekend of April, so you better get your ressies made when you can!

I think this time we will just get us a condo and eat all of our meals there since Kauai has such lousy restaurants.

And another thing...should we all take umbrellas or can you buy them there? Cause I think the real icee's son and dil will go with us on this trip and I don't want their tatoos to get ruined by all the rain.

Should we stay north or south? Or east or west?..

I am so confused 8-}

FainaAgain Jan 31st, 2006 02:57 PM

Is it me, or somebody had a coupla beers too many :-p

iamq Jan 31st, 2006 03:23 PM

I'2,

Sounds like you need to post your questions on one of them travel forums where there are people who jump at the opportunity to solve your travel problems for you. I think tripadvisor has one.

GO IN LATE MARCH! GO IN LATE MARCH!

-Bill

crazy4Hawaii Jan 31st, 2006 03:55 PM

So good to hear K-9 banter again. It's been a long drought.

Since it's north in summer and south in winter, is it east in spring and west in fall? Ya do want to follow the rules, ya know.

Kal, I know you're probably way past the whole tacky trip report thing, but I sure would LOVE to read yours over my loco moco in the morning.

iceeu2 Jan 31st, 2006 04:10 PM

Well...........Peter may not like us....but, what the hay!

And, Faina, I know you are not referring to me since I don't drink beer during the week!

ok...calm down and go to another place.

and, Kal, just what was that on top of your loco moco...it really did look like a portabella mushroom!

I'm outta here......another time gang!

i'2((r))

Kal Jan 31st, 2006 04:35 PM

lvk!
EVERYBODY counts in the Kauai Klique!
Already did Part One of the TR...pretty e-z to find. :-B
I'm still editing some 300+ pix of me eating and drinking and Mrs Kal laffin' at me for 21 straight days. Hey! I was in the zone...what can I say. :O) :@)

It was pure joy to hear her laff again. Loooong year! :'(

Sea_wahine,
Yeah...it's really great to be back.
:^o:^o:^o:^o:^o

I would love to see Kauai in May-ish.
We may go over May/June for Mrs Kal's b'day and "A Taste of Kauai" festival down by Smith's...and to see if The Sand Bar is finally re-opened.

Only saw about 3-4 whales this trip, durnit!!!

Faina2-No such thang as too much beer!

Crazy4-As mentioned before, easy to find.
Good news/bad news is a new resort is starting up on the Westside.

I'2-It's the regular patty with an egg on top...and a ton of gravyyyyyyyyyyyy!

MelHI and I split a TERRIFIC portabella at Longhi's. Pesto and some great cheese..they have very good bread to sop up the pesto, too. =P~
Nice to know Mels is a "dipper" too!
I'm an ursa major...BIG DIPPER! ;)

331 mo' days...unless we go in May!
:-X

MelissaHI Jan 31st, 2006 04:53 PM

Kal, I went to Sidestreet last night and had an EFFEN martini in your (& Mrs. Kal;s) honor! Next time you come back, we could try there....no ambience, no view, but super popular with locals. The place was packed for a Monday night.

fraukie Jan 31st, 2006 11:55 PM

Kal- well of course there's room!! Come on and jump into our suitcase!!
while talking of room...we need some in LA...on our return.....(if we decided to return...) for a long layover....

fraukie Feb 1st, 2006 12:51 AM

and something else...can one of you insiders arrange for Wishing Well to be open whenever we pass by?

sea_wahine Feb 1st, 2006 01:25 PM

Toss a coin in every fountain you see up until your
trip and maybe you'll catch Wishing Well open. It was a
pretty elusive number on our last trip, too. This does, however, make me want it all the more!

Kal Feb 8th, 2006 05:03 PM

F,
Here's to wishing you well!!!

Mels, Did you see my Effen pictures yet? :-"

iceeu2 Feb 9th, 2006 06:33 AM

Your photos made me want to go right over the Tradewinds for an effen screwdriver!

visormom Feb 9th, 2006 02:17 PM

I am thrilled to see this thread get new legs...I have LMAO at those in the "KLUB" for months while planning my March '06 nannananna..:) You folks are the best, and your passion for Kauai is contagious. Glad to hear they are closing for maintenance...after we leave of course!!!I will make sure that I leave YOUR playground in the same condition in which I found it~~~~Adieu PS>>>you are the same folks that might read about the "fat girl" that fell off a ledge while hiking, proportedly drinking lava flows~~~~tish tish...:)

FainaAgain Feb 9th, 2006 02:47 PM

Oh, that lava flow sound delicious:

1 oz light rum
1 oz Malibu® coconut rum
2 oz strawberries
1 banana
2 oz pineapple juice
2 oz coconut cream

And I don't care if I will fall off anything after this one!!

iamq Feb 10th, 2006 10:56 AM

Kal,

I loved your Effen pictures. You guys sure do eat a lot! Did the testamints taste "heavenly"? :-d

I am forever jealous of anyone who can spend more time on Kaua'i than me. :((

-Bill

DB Feb 10th, 2006 11:52 AM

We had been planning to go to Kauai ~:>, but when I read here that it was closed I immediately changed our plans to Maui.

Thank goodness for Fodors! =D>

We could've been making a huge mistake if it wasn't for the up-to-date info available by regulars such as Kal! :o)

Only 9 mo' days to the best island. ;-)

iceeu2 Feb 12th, 2006 03:35 PM

Thank goodness for sharing your research results, Kal. I am so glad he saved you, DB!!!!!!!((r))

fraukie Feb 21st, 2006 12:48 AM

we are back. and very sad- time went far too fast and now I am envious of all of you still looking forward to your next trip. anyway- wanted to give an update on Wishing Well: it WILL be closed on your last day, regardless of which day that may be. sign says open noon-5, closed Mondays. but that seems to be a lie.
