JFK to Penn Station-help!
I will be taking a night flight from LAX to JFK and arriving at 6:30 am. Will I have enough time to reach penn station to catch the Acela to Boston at 8:30 am. I am million miles away with no idea the distance of one place to the other. will it be possible?

I don't believe you will have enough time. Planes never arrive on time. I tend to think that arrival time means when the plane touches down but you still have to figure in the time it will take to get to the gate. When you get off you still need to go through the maze to get outside the airport to catch a ride. If you checked in luggage, you will need even more time to retrieve it. Not including the time spent in the airport, you will need at least an hour to get from JFK to Manhattan. You will be travelling during the rush hour so you will need even more time. All in all, I would recommend that you have at least three hours in between arrival and your next connection. I hope there's another train you can take. Good luck.

That's what I thought! Just need some confirmation. I will have to revise my schedule. Does anybody know whether UAL flies to Newark. I was unable to find any schedule in the UAL website. If they do fly to Newark, is it easier for me to take the train to Boston? Then I don't have to go into the city.

My last leg of the journey is new york and I'm going to fly home straight from there. The ticket I'm buying is Mal-LAX-NYC-MAL. If I want to fly straight to Boston I would have to pay a lot extra so I'm thinking of saving and ride on the train (the exchange rate is RM3.80 to 1 USD!!) Maybe I'll have to take an earlier flight but I'll be arriving at JFK at midnight. maybe I'll do that and get an earlier train into Boston. Showering at the airport? Just my luck!!
Thanks

UAL does fly into Newark; getting a direct flight from LA should not be a problem. If you're determined to get on that early train, I'd try for an earlier flight. You'll certainly sace time on the transfer by going to Newark Penn Station, but you need to allow time for flight delays.

Thanks for the replies. Just found out the UAL schedule to Newark. I will definitely fly there and take the train at the Penn Station. Worse come to worse, I'll take the later train which is a regular train. What is the difference between Acela and regular amtrak trains, apart from the speed? The fare is the same both ways. Will the regular train be as nice as the Acela?
