Is Sundial Beach Resort a "polyester bedspread" kind of place?
We just booked a long weekend at the Sundial Beach Resort on Sanibel Island, but I'm having second thoughts about it. Are the rooms kind of tacky or are they comfortable. We'd like to stay in place where you can feel comfortable sitting on the sofa w/o sticking to it...at least in the Westin/Hyatt range. Any recommendations for the Sanibel/Captiva area?

I stayed there as a kid in the 1970s. If they haven't remodeled since then...well... then it might be nasty.
I remember it as more condo-like than hotel-like. But surely someone who's stayed there more recently will reply!!

I know this answer doesn't help you decide, but I always request a couple of extra sheets for rooms that have a couch and a chair.
I drape the fresh sheet over the furniture.
I hate sitting on hotel furniture and it is so easy to cover it up.
PS... if it has one, pull that nasty bedspread off too!

Sundial is condos, and I think they are independently owned. We stayed there 2 years ago and the unit we were in was very nicely furnished and recently updated, but you never know. Word of warning - unless something has dramatically changed, the restaurant is horrible. The deli is ok for lunch, but there are way better restaurants off-property.

I posted a reply to your other post as well. In my experience of going to SAnible/Captiva 3-4 times per year I can tell you that it is an "old florida" kind of place. I don;t know exactly what you are looking for with the exception of bedding. I have never "stuck" to any furniture except the poolside chairs in a wet bathing suit. There are no corporate type hotels there no - Westins or Hyatts. Keep in mind that by 9pm there is NOTHING going on. After the sunset and dinner crowd is gone, there is nothing to do except hang out in you room, watch TV or if yhour lucky see a lightning storm. At the Tween Waters Inn they have Nascrab races, which is a big deal....I think that is over by 11 or so and that would be the only night time activity in the area.
You may also want to look into Marco Island as well as Naples. I think you will find the type of hotel you are looking for there. Marco has a Marriott, I think which is right on the beach and has a nice pool.

You cld also try The Hilton on Marco Island. We used to get the Jr. Suite there...7th floor, Southwest corner. I liked it b/c it had a good sized bedroom w/ full bath. And, a living room w/ a small powder room off the living room. Nice balcony. Beautiful sunsets over the water. Nice pool area.
