I must say this is one of the slicker attempts at sneaking in an ADVERTISEMENT or PROMO. But who would want to vacation in Iowa, of all places.

So, Addy, what coast are you from? I wasn't schilling my web site, I was offering some help to people. We love our state and we have seen tourism here grow dramatically in recent years. You have no interest in our state? Fine. But keep your negative opinions to yourself.

Sorry, jwagner, BUT YOU'RE THE ONE WHO'S OUT OF LINE!
READ THE RULES, DAMMIT. NO ADVERTISING!!
All these shameless hucksters spamming up the forums is really pissing me off. CUT IT OUT!
The Hawaii forums are the worst, followed by the California strings.
STOP WASTING OUR TIME AND POLLUTING THESE BOARDS!!!

NT....cool your jets. I am sure that there are plenty of people who do shamelessly advertise on these boards, but I did not take offense...I took the post from jwagner as an offer of help.
Chill out and don't get your shorts in a wad over something so trivial and well intended.

Dear Jwagner and Marsha:
Where you go wrong is that you ignore the fat that Iowan Magazine is a commercial enterprise, out to make money (I know--I used to be an editor for a regional magazine). While J may be desperate to bolster his magazine's sagging reader and subscriptions pool, he should not do it by trying to sneak in free ADVERTISING on a web site maintained and paid for by Fodor's. In my opinion, that's not only unethical but also amounts to stealing from Fodor's.

Marsha, you need to read some of the strings about advertising to understand why this is a slippery slope which must be prohibited.
In a nutshell, the value of these forums is in the TRUE, UNBIASED information you can get from other travellers. Info from advertisers could be useful, but you have no way of knowing if there is a hidden agenda, profit motive or other skewing the info/opinions. If you can't trust the info, it's useless. If the boards become littered with untrustworthy info, there's no sense in wasting your time here. It's all about reliability. It may sound trivial at first blush, but it's a pretty big deal if you'll be spending your precious $$ and time based in part on info you find here.
