I'm Feeling Hot Hot Hot~

OK, tell me what is wrong with this picture..
96 degrees in NYC
95 in Portland Or
94 in Jax Fl

How hot is it where you live and how are you managing?
I am packing so only the gekkos and birds care at my house :)

swalter518 Jul 27th, 2005 10:20 AM

There's hope-it was 102 over the weekend in Chicago and today it's only 80! It feels wonderful!!!

tpatricco Jul 27th, 2005 10:20 AM

It's sweltering here in NJ...MSN says it's currently 99 in Union. "Feels Like" temperature 108!

I ran a couple errands at lunchtime and practically melted getting into the car.

Thankfully I'm in my nice cool office right now! ((#)) Wish I had a Margarita! Trish

ahhnold Jul 27th, 2005 10:22 AM

Hotter than a nun in heat in Boston. It's To the unhealthy level.

jlm_mi Jul 27th, 2005 10:22 AM

70 degrees in Ann Arbor, MI. :D

It's been much hotter most of the summer, but this is a most welcome reprieve!

cmcfong Jul 27th, 2005 10:23 AM

Come on, Chicago, send some breeze our way. It is 99 in Pinnacle, North Carolina and headed for 100...me, I am headed for the pool.....

Kal Jul 27th, 2005 10:23 AM

It's so hot in Nor Kal, my dog was chasing my cat and they were walking.

I can scramble an egg in my shorts...which is no big deal because I've always been able to.......ooops....oh nevermiiiind.

Cooling down to "only" 97 today. 8-)

ncgrrl Jul 27th, 2005 10:23 AM

It was 101 about an hour ago according to the local tv station time/temp stamp (and an excessive heat warning too).

Managing? Air conditioning.

cassidy2002 Jul 27th, 2005 10:25 AM

Don't worry East Coast, relief is coming. As jlm_mi says, we are at a lovely 70 degrees in Michigan!! After sweltering temps & ridiculous humidity the past couple of days, this weather is WONDERFUL!!!

I guess we shouldn't really complain about our heat though, seeing what's been going on in Phoenix.....THAT is hot.

crefloors Jul 27th, 2005 10:25 AM

In Reno...100 again today..had 10 straigth days of 100+ and then some "relief"..about 5 days of 96 -98. I just keep the fans going but am NOT sleeping well. It hasn't really cooled off over night that much. Usually our "saving grace" up here is the fact that the nights cool off nicely because we are at about 4200 feet, but lately that hasn't been so. So, I'm dealing more than managing. Poor Scarlett, having to pack in the heat. You also have the humidity to deal with don't you? 95 is hot for Portland. Just take it slow. How long before you have to be out of your house? I think you guys are getting our heat wave from last week and the week before..it's been moving east. Drink lots of water during the day and after your day is done, sit down and have a REAL drink!!!!(:

kcapuani Jul 27th, 2005 10:27 AM

After a huge thunderstorm, its down to about 75 in Buffalo. Yesterday it topped 90 degrees... And people say there's no such thing as global warming :)

As for how I've been managing - massive A/C bills and keeping the heater off on my pool.

sunny16 Jul 27th, 2005 10:28 AM

The Weather Channel is reporting 92 for NYC, but I don't believe it...it feels a lot hotter. We don't have central air at home, so at night we only cool the bedroom. When we come out in the morning, the rest of the apartment feels like a furnace. I've been getting to work earlier for the last couple of weeks because of it!

bookchick Jul 27th, 2005 10:29 AM

We finally got some relief! www.wunderground.com shows that it's 70 in Ann Arbor now! However, I just returned from lunch, and out in the sun, it feels considerably warmer. I just took my blazer off, and I feel pretty comfy in my tee-shirt, linen pants and woven shoes.

OO Jul 27th, 2005 10:29 AM

90 in San Antonio. Where's my fleece??

seetheworld Jul 27th, 2005 10:30 AM

Well, it's 97 in the shade in Westchester, NY, but I think the heat index is something 107 - yikes! My poor flowers ((W))

Tomorrow the high is supposed to be 79! \:D/ Oh, happy day!

FainaAgain Jul 27th, 2005 10:34 AM

Scarlett, you are welcome to make a stop in San Francisco, to cool off before Portland, OR.

After all, SF is not Kal-ifornia! Unique micro-climate, you know ;)

Scarlett Jul 27th, 2005 10:34 AM

LOL OO. Kal , go to your room.
crefloors, one thing about Florida, everything is well air conditioned! I still have to take a sweater with me when going to stores etc.
We have it going strong in the house so packing isn't too bad, just annoying, I am tired of it and want to go now.
We leave Monday :D

Take care, FodorFriends and Stay Cool
8-) ((#))

Kal Jul 27th, 2005 10:35 AM

I saw where it was over 100 degrees in Chicago the other day for the BoSox/WhSox game.

How can it be that hot with all those fans there?

mamajo Jul 27th, 2005 10:36 AM

2:20 p.m. temps at RSW (Ft. Myers airport) is 90 with a heat index of 99 and humidity of 59% Hazy out...temps will be this for awhile yet. Our usual afternoon thunderstorms cool things off a bit..but not much and not for long.

Ft. Myers News-Press had an article yesterday about *snowbirds wish they were summerbirds* so they could come to Florida to cool off. ;)

Statia Jul 27th, 2005 10:40 AM

Gosh, those of you in triple digits should just come on down south to the Caribbean where we are only at 90. It's quite warm out, yes...but it's lovely in the shade.

Now, if we could just get rid of this awful African dust. :( I'm sick of not being able to see out my car windshield, not to mention the horizon being invisible for the past four days.

travelgirl_67 Jul 27th, 2005 10:40 AM

Its pretty painful here in Charleston, SC...the thermometer in my backyard reads 100...according to the weather guy, it feels like 120 out there and I can believe it. Supposedly a cold front is coming and this weekend will be a fridged 90...burrrrr! God bless the inventor of a/c!!!

Eeva Jul 27th, 2005 10:44 AM

Approximately 98 here in Mass. and the humidity has reached new levels of hideousness!!

Wow do I miss those trade winds...I knew when we left Kauai I would have to come back to this nonsense and yet I still boarded that plane.

Are they in need of teachers in Kauai???

kk Jul 27th, 2005 10:46 AM

It's normal here today in Houston.
94 degrees F and 94% humidity. That's it for summer, unless it goes over 95, at which point I absolutely melt.
So, this counts for a great day.

Statia Jul 27th, 2005 10:51 AM

kk, I grew up in that Houston humidity, so I can certainly sympathize.

kureiff Jul 27th, 2005 10:52 AM

A lovely and comfortable 79 degrees in Montana!

Meesthare Jul 27th, 2005 10:59 AM

Not too bad in Toronto today, but it's been in the 90's (or 30's if you're Canadian) for weeks and weeks and weeks. In BC it got warmish during the day and gorgeously cool at night; I was horrified to see the weather reports for Toronto. The heat wave seemed unrelenting.

JJ5 Jul 27th, 2005 11:02 AM

It was 104 degrees all day Sunday and 90 plus most of the two weeks before. Yesterday was torrential rain after no rain for more than a month. My car went out (fuel injector), I had dentist at 6:30am, and ended the day in a downpour with a rented car between semis.

Today it is 75 degrees and beautiful. I just love Chicago. Change and variety is the spice of life.

Cassandra Jul 27th, 2005 11:03 AM

My thermometer says 101.3 in the shade. Heat index is somewhere toward 110, I'm guessing. Bring on the thumpers.

razzledazzle Jul 27th, 2005 11:05 AM

Just a tad past noon here in the
southern Sonoma county and it's
a sunny 70. Y'all come by to cool off and we'll crank up the blender.
BYOT because
we're out.

Barbara Jul 27th, 2005 11:07 AM

In my close-to-the-coast corner of San Diego, it's a lovely 78 right now, but may get a bit warmer by mid-afternoon. Inland, it's much hotter.

SAnParis Jul 27th, 2005 11:10 AM

98 right nere in Charlotte, 108 when I got in the car at lunch that was parked in the shade..

JJ5 Jul 27th, 2005 11:22 AM

And I was at the Sunday Sox game, Kal. I was the one with the shirt that read "I prefer my Sox white."

Rain room time, and they even had the sprinklers on in the Upper Deck Exit tunnel. Never a whine was heard, and all kinds of boomers.

OneWanderingJew Jul 27th, 2005 11:34 AM

I think it's in the mid 90s and it's humid. Just unpacking stuff from Target had me sweating :P

OneWanderingJew Jul 27th, 2005 11:35 AM

Oh--and that weather report is brought to you by OWJ in Atlanta...back to you, Scarlett....

Meesthare Jul 27th, 2005 11:37 AM

Oooh - Target - my favourite store. I would be sweating with anticipation even if it were cold outside. :)

dcespedes Jul 27th, 2005 11:38 AM

OO, LOL! :-D Following the 100+ temps we experienced over a week ago 90 feels like a cold front!

Scarlett, 95 in Portland? Really?? Are you still planning to go to Hell? Think of the heat as a primer for your trip ;-)

tpatricco Jul 27th, 2005 11:39 AM

razzle, does that "T" stand for Tequila?

mikemo Jul 27th, 2005 11:39 AM

Scarlett,
It's been about 76 F here in SMdA the last week or so.
